ICICI Bank Sapphiro Credit Card Lifetime Free Under Alumni Program : Full Details And Application Link

They did take a request, but the cc agent told me its refused as you just got another rubyx credit card. So I want to know how long should I wait before applying again?
I applied and received Sapphiro within 4 weeks of getting Rubyx. CC executive just told to apply through another number, so I used my secondary number.

I have my wealth management account tagged with my primary number. Will it have any impact if I use secondary number? After receiving you changed the number again?

No idea about the account as I don't have one.
No, I didn't change anything. I've been receiving OTPs and everything on primary number only. Maybe as I already had a CC account with the bank, the linking happened in the backend.

really appreciate your input.
1. yes, that's right im feeling apprehensive, and i'm getting the sense that this alumni thing isn't pre-approved, so if i am going to get a hard enquiry anyways maybe id be better off with some other cc.
2. im also afraid that if i go ahead with this alumni program, ill get rejected. do rejection/approved have different effects on our credit?
2. could you clarify if the pre-approved ones have no enquiry or only soft enquiry?
hi @iAmPm or anyone else, pls try to help me with my doubts (especially #3)

Hi, will try to answer your queries to my best
1. Yes there will be cibil hit even for existing icici customer - infact there were 2 hits for me but could be specific
2. Yes rejection and approval might have impact on your credit profile, but in long run your timely repayments , utilization ratio, income to debt ratio and so many other factors will be more impactful
3. Yes generally pre approved don't do cibil hit but again it is very specific to bank and / or application flow taken for specific banks. When you do get pre approved offers, better to check with others who might have gone through the same process whether there was cibil hit

Overall since it is your first credit card, not sure if anyone else with similar scenario got through alumni program but I believe it is worth a try. Also looks like 3L was the base limit given to most of the approved cards and should be good start if approved.

Also please do go through threads on which process is the best for the start of your credit profile like taking secured card is one option too but haven't gone through that.

It is great you are being cautious but please take your judgement call and proceed. It is just one part of your financial journey and you will learn with experience. Cheers !

thank you. i did go through the threads, but there doesn't seem to be any consensus about which is better to start credit history with: fd based cc or pre-approved cc.

i'd appreciate if others could also chime in.

In my view, FD based CC is the best way to start the journey. No Cibil hits, less interest rates and sometimes extended repayment period. Only downside is that your funds get locked temporarily and the credit limit cannot be enhanced without pumping in extra funds. But, by that time, you are eligible for additional cards based on the credit history that you build through the former.

But obviously you will close your FD some time. And at that time, you will lose that period's credit history and hence the score will drop significantly.

I thought this card will be useless, but the AMEX variant of sapphiro is the only one in my collection that would get me an entry to Kolkata airport premium lounge - The Irish House.
Does this lounge economy class ticket holders ? Also, what other cards/banks/passes were listed as eligible for entry ?

Hello All
Just wanted to make you guys aware of ICICI Bank's Alumni Program under which they are offering LTF Sapphiro for alums of Premier MBA Colleges and IITs

I already had a Rubyx card and Amazon card with them with a limit of Rs. 6.5L which I had got from holding a Titanium Salary account. But recently I got their Sapphiro Card LTF under the same program as I'm an Alum from IIML.
I'll share some of the links here, you can apply directly and get a call back from them:

https://campaigns.icicibank.com/credit-card/sapphiroCreditCard/index.html?instituteCode=inst0003 - IIMA
https://campaigns.icicibank.com/credit-card/sapphiroCreditCard/index.html?instituteCode=inst0004 - IIMB
https://campaigns.icicibank.com/credit-card/sapphiroCreditCard/index.html?instituteCode=inst0005 - IIMC
https://campaigns.icicibank.com/credit-card/sapphiroCreditCard/index.html?instituteCode=inst0006 - IIMI
https://campaigns.icicibank.com/credit-card/sapphiroCreditCard/index.html?instituteCode=inst0008 - IIML
https://campaigns.icicibank.com/credit-card/sapphiroCreditCard/index.html?instituteCode=inst0009 - FMS Delhi

You can change the last 2 digit at the end of the link and to find your college ( Eg; =inst008, =inst009, etc) or you can just register in one link and state your college to the executive and they will process accordingly.
No Salary Slip required.

Thanks
Does others banks like Axis, SBI, IDFC, Indusind also run similar alumni program for LTF credit cards?

exactly. this is another thing im worried about. because, in one of the threads it's mentioned to try & not close the oldest cc. this makes my decision even harder.

is there anyway to upgrade the fd cc to unsecured one?

I read somewhere in this forum that even on upgrade of a cc, the credit history is maintained from the oldest one. does the same apply to fd cc to unsecured cc?
