From my experience, nothing like that. Cred is totally fine. I haven't seen any spam emails/Messages from Cred. If you want to create a cred account, please use my referral link. I have also Cred mint referral.

been using cred more than 5 year now, it 100% spam free, app is good enough to pay cc payment and get credit instantly on most private bank cc where else public bank cc will take 3-5 days even though it does settle payment max in 3 days if it public bank cc

Sign up with a referral link if they're still offering the INR 750-1K credit, and give them a dummy email address when they ask for one, so you don't have to deal with them reading everything in your inbox. Then uninstall or keep it for any rare offers as you wish. For actual CC bill payments, use HDFC.

Don't sign up directly you will not receive any any of benefits better to use someone's referral link.

They are good for instant settlements in most of the cases.
If you are looking to use it for cashback then you are a the wrong place.

Haven't used it in a while, earlier I used to get ~0.6% return from cashbacks if I structured my CC payments to be multiples of 1k. Since then, they've changed the rewards to be worse.

Yeah hdfc bank account is mandatory and with Millennia DC you will get 1% unlimited Cashback from any platform and upto 400 and unlimited 1% upto 750 with Platinum debit card (NOT from other sites).
