We did our 12 day Japan trip last year during fall time.

Pro tips:
1. If you're in Mumbai, get your Visa directly from Japan consulate. We got 5 year multi entry visa for just Rs. 500 per person. We are not holding any US or active Schengen visa.
2. You can book onwards flight to Tokyo but come back via Osaka airport. This way, you don't need to waste time in going back to Tokyo. We got pretty cheap tickets on Vietnam Airlines from Osaka to Mumbai.
@sid16 - Can you please tell process to apply directly at Japan Embassy?

my wife got a 5yr multi entry, they gave only 15days to me :'( will have to re-apply next year!

You can call them at 022 2351 7101 on Monday to Friday between 3 and 4 PM regarding timing, appointment and documentation.

Check this website for more details https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html

Also, Google "Japan Consulate Mumbai" and read the reviews, many important steps and documentation related points are given there.

You will need to go there once to submit documents/passport and one more time to pick up your passport. It is pretty smooth.

I suspect they check past travel history and then decide which visa to dish out. Maybe they give 5 year multi entry to entice frequent travelers to travel multiple times to Japan. And it is going to work for them, we will probably go to Japan again within this duration.

my wife and i have the same travel history for the past 8yrs atleast, just that in her latest passport there was schengen sticker whereas this was in my expired one. that could be the only thing i feel

Personally, I would suggest to just draw cash at Japan from an ATM. Some places will take only cash. So managing cash, Suica and CC will be too much. It's better to manage between cash and CC only. Suica is more useful for the locals there rather than tourists IMHO.

is the same available on google wallet too? i am most worried about the CC's not working on most places
No idea about google wallet, but I guess... android mobile manufactured outside Japan can't be used... or something like that....

I found Suica very useful... I used it to pay for all my local train tickets and even bought some items at 7-Eleven with it.
