I beg to disagree...I do not know kannada and i got my work done from many govt department without any issue of language barrier....Native kannada speakers are very nice, humble and understanding people. As i understand, hindi is 2nd language in Karnataka schools and local people understand hindi. Their only expectation from non-kannada people is to respect their local language and culture.

However, handful fringe elements are present in each community/religion/state and they spoil the name of entire community/religion/state.
Well summed up the Bengaluru culture 🥰

nope they're not...had a really bad exp....what they do is...when they want to screw you....they speak with others in kanada/other alien language for you ....even though both know hindi...and then they charge exhorbitant rates...or dont give proper service...in short...screw you...i have had this exp in all the dravidian states...so now for me..... no more going to any dravid state...they think they're some intelligent species...but they're not...they just speak a diff languange than hindi....thats all...

this is my exp....according to some ppl southern states are gems....well for me they're not...
I don't understand how you know that they could speak in Hindi! It's your choice, stay out of Southern states.

lol....i heard them speak hindi with me..btw dimag aacha diya hai tumko...yes..i'll out of south for ever now....kyun jana....jab vo log insult kare hamara.....

Languaue is just an excuse, whenever people get authority or power they start exploiting which happens in every corner of the world not just here.

Well, I am from the Hindi Heartland, the heart of hearts, Prayagraj, nothing more Hindi, more northern than Prayagraj. Here, even road signs are inscribed in southern languages in addition to Hindi and English at least the main city. Street vendors will understand enough of whatever southern language you throw at them to at least help you. They may not understand anything, but they will catch enough words so you don't die of hunger.

So just brushing up your systemic problem with "everyone does that" will not cut it. It's a problem, and yes, I agree that it's politically motivated, but who is gonna solve it. UP was THE gangster state of India; the citizens suffered, and we are solving the problem one day at a time.

You don't want us to respect your language or culture. In the history of humanity, no group has ever earned respect by strong-arming another group. The problem is not the fringe element of society, it's the good guys doing nothing out of fear. That says a lot about your culture.

Problem is, most people from Hindi heartland expect that when people from other States come to their States, those people should learn Hindi and talk in Hindi but the reverse logic is not applicable and when people from Hindi heartland goes to other States, it is supposed to be responsibility of people of those States to learn Hindi and talk in Hindi.
Interesting fact - As per last Census, 57% of Indians (the majority) do not speak Hindi and even for the 43%, only 26% reported as main language while the others only as secondary/third language.

Technically, taxes, revenues etc are to be paid from own funds only. Not sure whether the use of the card of a third party is even permitted for such transactions. Now some sites even ask a declaration on this.

Man I can only facepalm to this. No you shouldn't expect that the entire north will behave the same way, and we shouldn't expect it from the south. It's the hotspot with frequent travellers/residents from the other side that should be accommodating.

By your logic, unless someone in a democracy gets more than 50% votes, they shouldn't be elected. Hindi IS the language of the majority and it will be for the foreseeable future. You guys are not doing a good job of preserving your languages. You can't just club everything else into one, and that doesn't include other hind-like languages. Your logic is cashing cheques that reality just can't cash.

So should most people from south be a bit protective just like the north? Yeah, go ahead. But the hotspots (major cities on either side) should be free of systemic linguistic problems because they are supposed to be the frontiers. You are not preserving your culture or tradition this way, again to remind no group in history has ever achieved that.

And let's end it here, you have said your piece and I have said mine, neither of us is going to change our mind. Let nature and history take their course.

Now @dvader is "on crease"

Thanks for the graphical confirmation 100-43 = 57. And what is now claimed as "dialects" were originally languages in their own right, far more ancient than Hindi, like Awadhi, Mgadhi, Bhojpuri, Marwari, Mewari, Dhundhari, Shekhawati, Jharkhandi etc.
Yeah smarty pants thanks for "highlighting the linguistic convergence", Hindi IS the culmination of convergence of all these regional dialects. That's a concept called convergent language. I personally know Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Bundelkhandi, and they never forced me to learn it.

The Constitution of India does not recognise any "Primary" language in India. All major languages are given equal status. And when one goes to another part of the Country (or the world), they have to adjust to the norms, cultures and languages of the majority of that location and also respect such norms and cultures. Expecting the locals to adopt to the norms of the outsiders is Colonial mentality.

Even black holes have an Event Horizon you are denser than a black hole, dude. You keep doing you, I am not expecting anything. I want the southern languages to live and thrive; they have done this for thousands of years now, but somehow you guys wanna cut the branch you are sitting on just to go against the guy standing below asking you not to do that.

You keep doing you.
