Kiwi will offer RuPay credit card to users to make UPI payments

The leadership expects to onboard 2 Mn users in eighteen months

Kiwi, a credit card platform, has announced the launch of its all-in-one “Credit on UPI,” solution for customers. Certified by the NPCI, Kiwi is the first app in India that will help customers experience “Credit on UPI” by issuing Rupay Cards in partnership with banks.

With this launch, the company aims to create one of the largest direct-to-consumer (D2C) models in the credit market through its mobile application, which offers users the ability to make payments using either a credit card or bank account directly through their phones in a secure manner.

Speaking about the launch, Siddharth Mehta, co-founder, Kiwi, said, “UPI has become the most inclusive mode of payment in India, with over 30 crore unique users and 5 crore merchants onboarded on the platform. With the launch of Kiwi app, for the first time in India, users can now leverage the power of a (RuPay) credit card with the convenience and ease of UPI. Our vision is to enable access to credit on UPI for 1 million users over the next 18 months.”

Kiwi users will be issued a RuPay credit card, digitally and instantly. Post receiving the card, users will be able to link the card to UPI on the app and will be able to use the “Credit on UPI” transactions facility at offline as well as online stores. The Kiwi app will also help users manage their cards with a host of facilities like blocking cards, increasing limits, and making card payments while rewarding them for every transaction.

Praveena Rai, COO, NPCI said, “In our step towards attaining the goal of ‘Digital Payments for All’, Kiwi will be a game-changer in the Indian credit card industry. With the monthly expenditure on UPI P2M transactions amounting to approximately Rs. 3.2 lakh crore, which is almost 2.5x larger than the monthly credit card spends, Kiwi is set to capitalize on a significant untapped market. Looking at the whitespace that Kiwi is addressing, we’re confident that their model will support plenty of Indian credit card users on a daily basis.”

How long kiwi takes to link card to app
It depends on many variables.

For our 1st card - first timer applicant - no previous axis cards - it took less than 2 days - to see the card on the App n do the 1st scan-payment. Later, did some payments to contacts. Smooth affair. All this in June.

For my own card - I already have Axis Airtel card - I was rejected - usual emails n SMS - No card. Someone called me n asked me to wait till end-July. On 15th, I applied again, via Axis Bank for Kwik. Almost instantly approved. VKYC failed. On 22nd, manual KYC done at home. Tracking available. Approved 26th - Yesterday axis gives combined limit (more than double the previous limit) n showing all details on axis App. Waiting for activation code email.

Kivi App - still showing as physical KYC scheduled in the ir App. Probably another 2 days wait - by Monday it might be fully functional. Not in a hurry at all.....

I Have FK, MyZone I got Kiwi through axis agent physical kyc arranged by kiwi as it was not pre approved. Approved on 26, activation code received on 27th, activation done. But kiwi app still says not approved.so,reched them to link my card...they asked to wait for 48hrs.

Try this method. For existing Axis card holders whose application was rejected. It may or may not work so decide before you apply.
Apply on kiwi app with new mobile no and new email and fill all details. Then complete VKYC. Kiwi will show KYC Review in Process.
Then after 2/3 days later, in app update your new number and email which you signed up in kiwi.
When Axis will review your application, you will be existing Axis card holder and it should approved in few days.
I applied 20th July and today my application is approved. App is showing Kiwi card to unbox.
Again, it may or may not work. It worked for me. I changed my mobile/email for other reason and this way it was approved.

Is it possible to the Kiwi Card via the app even if we own 3 axis cards?!
Just don't apply for it. It is a pathetic card, 99% of transactions failed(check attachments). It is not their card issue, it's their Axis gateway problem. I suggest you go with HDFC/Kotak or any other bank's Rupay Credit Card.

This joint venture is yet to be successful. There is a huge mismatch between the partners. Lack of experience n expertise is visible even to a naked eye.
The concept is unique. I like it. Execution hiccups will be there in the initial stage. I didn't expect them to stay for long. We are about to enter the 3rd month. It is not yet OK. In June, the launch was smooth. Later, scaling up created new set of problems. I fondly hope Kiwi/Kwik will be back to smooth operations from mid Aug.

In comparison, my experience in getting PNB's Platinum RuPay credit card is so very smooth n on expected lines. Online application was flawless, VKYC process was perfect and SMS status updates were regular. Got my card with 75K limit. Their PNB Genie App was great - full of many features. Immediately linked this RuPay card to various UPI Apps n NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE in the last 3 months. Scan payments, other online n offline payments, SMS alerts, bills, credits n updates.... All are on expected lines.
I am very pleased with the way PNB is going about in this area.

Moreover, it is NEARLY LTF - you need to do only one (yes, only one) transaction, in each quarter to get it free next year. No more targets, no more milestones, no unnecessary sales calls. No unnecessary spam emails....
I did more than 40 transactions - so far in the last 3 months....
Shows how good N dependable it is.

Every thing same for me except few transaction cancellations. It freaked me out initially due to complex refund procedure for failed transaction. However those failed transactions were not part of bill statement.
Last 1 month have been smooth ( no failures)
