Kotak 811 Infinity Metal Debit Card – Unboxing & First Impressions

I visited my nearby Kotak Mahindra Bank branch on September 10, 2025, to inquire about opening a Kotak 811 Infinity Metal Card variant account.

I first spoke to the operations manager, who asked me to meet a staff member responsible for account openings. When I went to his seat, he wasn’t there. I checked again with her, and she informed me that his contact number was posted on the notice board.

She also warned me that many Kotak 811 accounts had raised numerous complaints, noting that Kotak 811 is a subsidiary of Kotak Mahindra Bank.

On the notice board, I found his name and contact number, noted down both, and went home. When I called him, his very first question was whether I currently had, or previously had, any account with Kotak.

I told him that I had a Kotak salary account but had closed it one year ago. He replied that the Metal Card account was intended only for New to Bank (NTB) customers. I asked him if he could come to my home to open an account for another person who was NTB. Once he came, he decided to check my eligibility in his app — surprisingly, it allowed me to proceed with the Metal Card variant account despite my past Kotak relationship.

On the final page of the application, he showed me a QR code for ₹81,100. He mentioned that the account would be created within two hours and that I could withdraw the amount afterward.

That day, we opened two accounts:
  • One NTB account
  • One account for an existing Kotak relationship customer
Within one hour, my account was created, and the annual charge of ₹399 (including tax) was deducted.

Two days later, I received my Infinity Metal Debit Card.

Interestingly, the CRN (Customer Relationship Number) was the same as my previous account, and even my beneficiary details were still visible.

It seems the bank doesn’t completely erase old records after account closure.

It offers 5% cashback everywhere — whether online or offline.
  • Minimum transaction: ₹20
  • Maximum cashback: ₹500 per month
I tried it across petrol pumps, offline stores, and online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. The cashback reflected instantly in the app after each transaction.

At HP petrol pumps, you also earn an additional 1% cashback as HP Pay coins.

At the moment, this makes it the best fuel card — completely vendor-agnostic.

I received ₹250 + ₹1,000 worth of gift vouchers (redeemable on Amazon, Flipkart, etc.).

So, with an annual fee of ₹399, the total benefit was: ₹1,250 – ₹399 = ₹851
One minor drawback is that ATM cash withdrawals are not very smooth with this card. However, since I don't use ATMs, this is not an issue for me.

Overall, the Kotak 811 Metal Card offers great cashback both offline and online (including fuel) and value for the small annual fee.

Just a slight mistake, next year you will be charged 999+GST instead of 399 due to new T&C. Rest is same.

Thats good to know man, congrats!
Any idea on the possibilities for someone who is an active 811 user and intends to upgrade onto 811 super, any chances on bagging the Infinity metal in this case?

I messed up the formatting while sending the email :/
Just got off the call with Nodal officer after i raised by RBI Ombusman complaint.

To summarise what he said : We have every right to change TNC by pushing a new GSFC, we can always alter fees for a debit card, even if the website had said annual fee waived , we can charge it dedicately via account variant, only way anything will happen is if RBI instructs us to.

So infuriating.

Dude kept saying that only renewal is charged as 999 , when i asked him " What does annual fee waiver and joining fee waiver then mean? " hes like it doesnt matter, its in GSFC so it will be charged.

I don't know why can't they have a single unanimous opinion rather than using ambiguous terms and creating confusion among all. Haven't seen such an untrustworthy institution before. They practically took backdoor entry to charge extra for metal debit card despite promising something else earlier. I wish RBIO intervenes and decides something in consumer's favor as it was essentially misinformation and breach of trust by bank.

I am unable to see any virtual DC in my kotak 811 super savings A/c. Reached out to customer care but no help. How to activate virtual DC? I have Metal DC and use IoS, however the person whom I refereed also has same type of A/c but was able to generate both DC (he had android- is that a factor?).

Also need to know whether metal/plastic physical DC and Virtual DC has same BIN/expiry and CVV? Customer care's technical team told me this - seems wrong TBH.

Can any1 help or share their exp pls

When did you open the account? You have to be patient mate. You don't need to generate anything. Everything will be generated automatically.

Metal and physical DC both have different BIN.

There will be 2 virtual DC (normal 811) and (metal dc one) and 1 physical DC (this BIN will be same as metal dc virtual)

Its been 3months now, but my referral got both instantly.

I reached out to Kotak care they say there is no process for virtual card and even If I get one its same BIN. Crazy response.

Your virtual 811 super DC will have the same BIN of metal DC. So, it doesn't matter which one you get.

But there should be one more virtual card, which is basic 811.

Ask your friend if he has 2 virtual in his app. If there isn't then I guess directly opening metal DC doesn't give basic 811 virtual DC.

And coming to your query, although there is no huge issue still you can raise the request to PNO that you are unable to see the virtual DC in your app.
