Kotak Privy League Platinum: Worth It or Not?

TF Select
Last December, I had an interesting experience with Kotak Mahindra Bank. Initially, my relationship manager, who was previously with ICICI and helped me open a Privilege account there, suggested opening a Privy League Platinum account with a hefty 10 lakh initial funding. That was a bit too much given that I already have six bank accounts: one each in SBI, HDFC, IDFC, two in ICICI, and a current account in Kotak. When I mentioned that the 10 lakh funding was impractical, he then suggested a account under Privy League Neon program with Rs. 5 Lakh Funding. However, I was already enjoying similar benefits through my other accounts, so I wasn’t interested. After some back and forth, he finally agreed in December 2024 to open two accounts under Privy League Platinum program with a reduced initial funding of 2 lakhs, split between two accounts: one for me and one for my mother, each with 1 lakh. He even came to my home to handle everything, likely under pressure from the quarter-end rush I suspect he fell short of his target last quarter.

Now, I’m curious about how to confirm that my account has been upgraded to the Privy League Platinum program. Has anyone verified this through the Kotak internet banking portal or app? Should I reach out to customer support or email? How to know if I am, under Privy League Platinum program? Does the interface appear a bit different ? If yes can someone share a picture???

Additionally, he mentioned that the Kotak White Card would be lifetime free under this program. Given the current RBI situation, I’m skeptical about signing up with the Kotak White Card because i already hold the LTF Kotak Zen Card.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

I don’t have an account in Kotak…
But you should be able to call customer care and ask for your current status of account program.

Don’t worry about RBI ruling about Kotak CC . It is lifted now.. Kotak white CC should be a good one to have..
@plastikman , can you help him.. I think you have an account in Kotak right??

Thank you so much for your response. @plastikman can you confirm me once?
You will get to know about your banking program type in your monthly statement

Check which account type is it reflecting in your statement
Alright I'll check even though haven't really received any monthly statement on my e-mail yet.

I have this account - completely useless.

Incase you are looking for Kotak White LTF - then you can go ahead with the upgrade; however card services will start from April 1st week.

Other benefits are normal - have been using the account for over a year and haven't seen any upgrades on so called premium account.

I understand… so is the interface in app/netbanking a bit different? And you have the Privy League Platinum account, right?

Also, I don’t use the Kotak Zen Signature card much. It’s lifetime free—I have an email confirmation about it. On the other hand, upgrading to the White Card doesn’t seem to offer much of a difference, and I don’t want to pay any fees for it. So, what do you think?

As per my RM, the White Card will be issued as LTF. Based on my understanding of Kotak’s website, there are no charges as long as I remain in the Privy League Platinum program. When I asked my RM about this, he confirmed it but also mentioned (informally) that no one would downgrade me from Privy League Platinum, even if I maintain a ₹0 balance.

But what happens if he is replaced by someone else managing the Privy League Platinum portfolio at the branch, and they decide to downgrade my account? In that case, the charges would apply, right? In that case I wouldn't consider the upgrade to White.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

Try to apply / upgrade for your debit card. Depending on the privy league variant, it show you option to apply for Neon, Platinum or Black debit card.

Also, Neob comes with LTF Zen CC while Platinum comes with LTF White CC and Black comes with LTF White Reserve CC.

Kotak mostly doesn't downgrade the privy tier. In the past done TF members have reported downgrade but it happened mostly for salary accounts and that too after not maintaining criteria for 6 months or more. I have always maintained the criteria so cannot confirm.

Yes, the cards remain LTF till the privy tier is maintained. If not then, charges are applicable.

There is no change in the interface for me - after upgrade I got the LED card upgrade in the app.

Since I have a salary account with them, I am not worried about balance. However, if your RM is not sharing any confirmation on email, then your account may be downgraded.

So take everything on email and then go ahead with upgrade.
