Long Term Schenghen Visa?

Has anyone gotten a long term schenghen visa even when technically not eligible? For example, I don't meet the requirments, but I have had 3 schenghens about 10 years ago and 1 schenghen about 5 years ago.

According to the newly adopted visa “cascade” regime for India, Indian nationals can now be issued long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for two years after having obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years. The two-year visa will normally be followed by a five-year visa, if the passport has sufficient validity remaining. During the validity period of these visas, holders enjoy travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals.

To qualify for a long-duration visa under the Cascade scheme, one should have lawfully used 2 Schengen visas in the last three years. However, I have heard of people getting long term visas in the first few attempts. Recently a friend received a visa with a one-year validity for their second-ever Schengen visa.

Hope then for people like me with multiple Schengen stamps but not as per recent cascade requirement !

I got a 1 year visa from Spain as my second ever Schengen visa (last one was pretty recent though).
Did u request them in cover letter specifically to grant long term validity?

Also, is it risky to ask for lone term multi entry rather than just keeping it short term single entry? I mean if we ask and they don't agree, they will reject straightaway or grant at least single entry visa for the current planned trip.

Always ask for multi-entry. No, they won’t reject. They may change it to single entry, but they won’t reject because of this reason.

Strangely enough it doesn't seem to matter what you request for, they'll just give whatever they feel like based on your profile. I only asked for single entry but still got a 1 year MEV. I know many people who got a single entry despite asking for multi entry (from other consulates though). And yeah they won't reject based on asking for multi entry, they'd just give a single entry instead.

I have applied for a Schengen Visa around 10 times in the past. Always requested multi-entry, and successfully got it too. My wife on the other hand, received a multi-entry visa from Spain on her first attempt, but in her second application, Greece issued her a single-entry visa. Thereafter, she has always been issued a multi-entry visa.
