Lounge access linked to spend criteria

Now a days most mid range card are offering lounge access linked to certain spending in previous quarter.
Consider this scenario - I make a payment/order exceeding the spending limit before bill generation such that the amount is captured in the last statement of the quarter and then cancel the order after bill generation to get the refund.
Will this trick work to achieve the spending limit

No, do you think the card department of bank is full of fools ?

Also doing this repeatedly will get your account flagged and closed eventually

I think many cards will not consider your refund as a payment and you may have to also make a payment and then on top you will have a refund
