My Experience of Applying for Canara Bank Mastercard World Credit Card

I recently applied for the Canara Bank Mastercard World Credit Card, and I wanted to share my experience, especially the key insights and issues I encountered along the way.

Key Benefits & Findings:

🔹 Lounge Access for Guests – This card offers both domestic and international lounge access for guests, which I discovered in a thread on Canara Bank cards.
🔹 Golf Benefits – Another unexpected perk I found through Mastercard's program. Surprisingly, this isn't mentioned on Canara Bank’s website but is confirmed through Mastercard’s World Card India Golf Program.
🔹 Approval by Branch Manager (BM) – The BM can approve this card at his level, making the process considerably faster.
🔹 Fees & Charges – While this is a Lifetime Free (LTF) card, there is an inactivity fee of ₹300 + GST per year if annual spending does not reach ₹1,00,000. So, I personally consider it a paid card with an effective annual fee of ₹354.

Application Process:

📍 Branch Visit & Application Submission
I applied at a branch just 2 minutes from my home (not the one where I got 10K twice 😆). I contacted the Branch Manager (BM) over WhatsApp, and he asked me to visit with the required documents.

📅 Application Date: 01-Feb
  • Since I have an SB Account in a different branch, the BM took a printout of my application form after entering my account number.
  • My details were pre-filled, and I just had to:
✅ Tick the card variant (Mastercard World)
✅ Enter name to be embossed on card
✅ Verify other printed details and sign
  • Documents submitted: Self-attested copies of PAN, Aadhaar, latest ITR, and a passport-size photo.

Approval Process:

📅 Follow-ups & Delays
  • 15-Feb: Followed up and was told there were system issues. BM said his staff would call for verification, but I didn't hear back.
  • 20-Feb: Sent a WhatsApp reminder about the 20-day delay. Got a call from the branch soon after.
  • Card application was finally submitted in their system after I provided consent via:
    • A webpage link & OTP verification
    • Another code that I had to share with the branch staff over the phone
  • CIBIL inquiry alert after 19 minutes, followed by an approval SMS in 11 minutes—fastest approval ever!
📢 Reason for Delay:
The branch staff mentioned a system upgrade, which added a new consent step that was not required earlier.

📅 Card Received: 24-Feb (via Speed Post)

Issues Faced:

⚠️ Truncated Name on Card – Instead of embossing the name entered in the application form, they truncated my full name and embossed the same.
⚠️ CIBIL Inquiry as "Consumer Loan" – Instead of being categorized as a credit card inquiry, my CIBIL report showed a consumer loan inquiry.
⚠️ Follow-ups Required – Had to push the BM twice to get my application submitted in the system.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it was a mixed experience—the approval itself was super quick (30 minutes flat!), but the delays and minor issues were frustrating. If you're considering this card, be prepared for potential delays, but once processed, it’s smooth.

Would love to hear if others had a similar or different experience! 🚀💳

Can anyone confirm if 10K quarterly spend based criteria is applicable to all canara bank credit cards?
Logically it should apply to all, but there is no mention of the change in website.

Change is site is usually done after ages.
If this is applicable for Rupay Select, definitely will be applicable for all cards.

Didn't check, not bothered 🙂. I need only the lounge and golf benefits.
Can you tell how this 3+2 lounge access is given? Is it possible to get access for guest and primary card holder at same time/day with primary card swiping multiple times or is it allowed with add-on cards for guest? Did you try this?

Yes, it will be a single swipe. Just mention that you have a guest with you, and they will add that.

Guest access is allowed only with card holder. It will be a single swipe on the primary card. You need to ask lounge person to enter number of guests.

have they asked for the savings account for the issuance of the credit card, and was the savings bank debited twice for 59 in name of cibil inquiry please?

I do have a 20+ year old savings account in a different branch and as far as I know Canara Bank does not issue CC if you don't have savings account.
They waived my CIBIL charge (I did not request), my account was not debited. Perhaps being compensated for double charge 6 years back when I took a car loan 😀
