Need advice on getting the HDFC Millennia Credit Card (LTF Offer)

Hi all,

This is my first post here, after being a silent reader for almost a year. I want to take a moment to thank the Technofino community for all the valuable guidance shared over time – it has been incredibly helpful!

I’m seeking some advice regarding getting the HDFC Millennia Credit Card for my mother. Here’s the situation:

My mother is a government salaried doctor earning ₹150,000 per month. She currently holds the HDFC MoneyBack Plus Credit Card with a limit of ₹42,000, which was increased from ₹35,000 to ₹42,000 in December 2023. I recently came across the HDFC Millennia Credit Card with a Lifetime Free (LTF) offer on their website (valid till Jan 16, 2025), and I'm interested in getting it for her.

From my research and reading several threads here, my initial plan was to close the existing card and apply for the Millennia card after opening a new bank account with HDFC. However, the person who visited our home for the bank account opening insists that we should not close the current credit card. Instead, he suggests applying for an upgrade by providing salary payslips. I tried this approach earlier in March 2024, but the application was rejected due to internal policies.

Given this, I’m now looking for suggestions on how to proceed. I really want to get the HDFC Millennia Credit Card on the LTF offer, and I’m unsure whether I should follow the RM's suggestion or stick to my original plan.

Any advice or insights from those who’ve gone through a similar process would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I doubt that's ever going to happen. No ecom will allow it's competitor card to be eligible for its promotion.

Cobranded cc are designed as a loyalty cards. Implementation in india was faulty. Icici apay was ltf, many got fk axis/tata neu as ltf. Logically they should have been priced cc to keep customers from switching.
E.g. The same product is sold at same price in amazon & fk. Then people with apay cc would choose amazon( & those who prefer amazon would opt for apay cc in return) . People with fk axis would choose fk( & those who prefer fk would opt for fk axis cc in return).
Then came SBI CB which is again not a core card but hates loyalty !

Close it asap. Apply around fy end. You can easily get millenia ltf if not RG ltf.
My sister had Tata Neu plus paid card. HDFC denied LTF or upgrades.

Salary account in HDFC with take home of ~45k.
Very soon she started getting moneyback and other useless cards.
It took an year to get Mil LTF offer

Ops mom is govt doc with 1.5l salary. She can easily get RG. Most likely ltf. Hdfc gives preference to govt employee. She might even get better cc.

I also have a dilemma about Millennia..

Want to apply it for a family member, salary above 1.4L. No account in HDFC.

Upon trying from HDFC website (Millennia page), we were shown Diners privilege, TneuPlus and Swiggy LTF.

Mailed HDFC but they said they can't do anything can we can only apply "auto-suggested" cards online.

Considering offline application, but would lose around 2000 in vouchers.

Any alternatives/suggestions?
I am on a same boat as you. depending on my use case only card useful for me is HDFC Tata nue Infinity. They only offered TATA nue plus.

Update:
My previous card has been closed, but the online credit application says there are no offers currently. Should I wait for FY-end offers or apply offline?
I’m also considering applying for the SBI Cashback Credit Card (via sprint). Will it get approved or will i be provided with some other credit card?

I got a call during the end of Jan from hdfc rep saying I'm approved for millennia LTF. I always wanted millennia, but whenever I check to see which are available for me, I never saw it. I have a savings account with HDFC, so figured that might've helped my cause. I explicitly asked the rep if it was indeed millennia and if it's LTF. They said it is and that I have a 4L limit. I proceeded with this. I haven't got the card yet, but today when I just checked the app, to my surprise it's showing Moneyback plus with a limit of 92K.

I texted the rep, as she had pinged me on WhatsApp before, and informed the same. Now she's like yeah, you're only approved for moneyback based on cibil -_-.
After a few exchanges, she apologized and said she'll talk to her manager to see about an upgrade. Not sure what's going to happen, but either way, a very dissapointing experience from HDFC. Basically tricking the customer to meet end of month quotas.

I think She was not an employee of hdfc. She was from any other company

Bro why are you struggling to pay Rs.236 per year?

Obviously you will get SMS and Email of the bank when you apply for their card by any means

Because she can only apply on hdfc official website for hdfc credit card. So you got sms. Even if you apply, you'll get sms and mail from hdfc only
Okay got it. Then in my case how should I proceed? Should I just accept the moneyback plus or cancel it as I wanted and applied thinking it's for millennia?
Note: I don't have any hdfc credit cards, just the millennia debit card.

Curious if accepting the moneyback and trying for upgrade or cancel the moneyback and try fresh for millennia would be better. I have no idea if cancelling a new card will play a part in future applications.

If you apply again, they may again send MoneyBack plus. So please send email to grievance.redressalcc@hdfcbank.com. In hdfc terms and conditions, I heard they mentioned they can give any card. So you can't also complain

I got the moneyback + card delivered today. Also got a call from the credit card team asking me to activate it. I told them I applied for the millennia card and not moneyback, so I won't do it. They said to do one transaction of atleast 100 rupees in the moneyback card to get it activated, and then call them to inform. They will then upgrade the card from their end to millennia and send me the mail as well. Told me it'll be LTF.

They mentioned for people applying for millennia, hdfc handles this 2 ways:

1. Directly gives millennia if eligible
2. Gives moneyback if inelgible and then upgrades to millennia after activation.

Anyone has any insight on this? Or got the millennia like this?

Don't trust verbally
Ask them to send this in writing from their official email

They are just trying to get your card activated that's all, don't think they can upgrade the card that early

Ask them to give it in writing. Otherwise threaten the sales guy of lodging a complaint with NCH for mis selling.

From which number you got the call? Is it a personal mobile number. Then they're just trying to activate your card. They can't upgrade to millenia

Seems like a personal number. True caller says 'Credit Card Verification Team'. The first person I talked to gave the phone to someone else, after I said I'm not fluent in hindi. And we talked in English from then on. Said they are available 24/7 and to call them for any questions.
