Need advice on getting the HDFC Millennia Credit Card (LTF Offer)

Hi all,

This is my first post here, after being a silent reader for almost a year. I want to take a moment to thank the Technofino community for all the valuable guidance shared over time – it has been incredibly helpful!

I’m seeking some advice regarding getting the HDFC Millennia Credit Card for my mother. Here’s the situation:

My mother is a government salaried doctor earning ₹150,000 per month. She currently holds the HDFC MoneyBack Plus Credit Card with a limit of ₹42,000, which was increased from ₹35,000 to ₹42,000 in December 2023. I recently came across the HDFC Millennia Credit Card with a Lifetime Free (LTF) offer on their website (valid till Jan 16, 2025), and I'm interested in getting it for her.

From my research and reading several threads here, my initial plan was to close the existing card and apply for the Millennia card after opening a new bank account with HDFC. However, the person who visited our home for the bank account opening insists that we should not close the current credit card. Instead, he suggests applying for an upgrade by providing salary payslips. I tried this approach earlier in March 2024, but the application was rejected due to internal policies.

Given this, I’m now looking for suggestions on how to proceed. I really want to get the HDFC Millennia Credit Card on the LTF offer, and I’m unsure whether I should follow the RM's suggestion or stick to my original plan.

Any advice or insights from those who’ve gone through a similar process would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Do not close your existing card. She might face rejection fr Millennia bcz of age factor.

  1. The Millennia card also offers ₹1,000 quarterly milestone benefits, and the 1% cashback includes jewellery purchases as well. I’ve also heard that the Swiggy card doesn’t work for instant discount offers.

  2. I already tried applying for the SBI Cashback card but was given the SimplyClick card with just a ₹30,000 limit, even though there’s a salary account with them. The customer service experience wasn’t great—when I visited the branch, the BM said the credit card department is outsourced and they don’t handle card-related issues. I ended up closing the card after they rejected my requests for LTF and an upgrade.
SBI banking has no relation with SBI cards whatsoever. They are two separate entities unlike other banks like Axis or HDFC where you can leverage your banking relationship towards Credit card.

However, getting SimplyClick LTF is very simple. You can pay the joining fees, attempt to close a card with reason "fees and others or so" and they revert the fees. Now wait for 1 year, let the annual charges be applied... then clear the bill and initiate card closure. Retention team will offer LTF.

I personally made my SimplySave LTF last week, however I had 3-4L spends which already made me eligible for fee reversal.

IMO with 1.5L salary OP should aim for Regalia Gold LTF.

HDFC is weird, my non working wife got Moneyback+ LTF with 70K limit. After few months they offered LE to 1.25L and also gave Millennia upgrade that too without asking.
  1. Regalia Gold is indeed a great card, but its rewards are mostly travel-oriented, which isn’t very useful for me right now. However, considering that Regalia can be a gateway to the prestigious HDFC Infinia or Diners Black cards, I’m not sure if it’s worth sacrificing the Millennia’s rewards for Regalia.

  2. Yes, HDFC is definitely unpredictable. I got an LTF MoneyBack+ card with a ₹50K limit as a student under 21, while they rejected a limit enhancement for someone earning ₹1.5 lakh per month!

I’m hoping they might process it since, as someone mentioned, a few people have managed to get it despite the age factor. But honestly, it’s not a big deal because I already have another HDFC card for instant discounts and other benefits.

Max age limit for millennia is 40y, so look at this before closing moneyback
That's not true my sister who is 45+ got Millennia as per approved.

Me still struggling to upgrade my 12 year old MoneyBack to Millennia 😢 have also Swiggy LTF, thinking to closing both the cards now

I also have a dilemma about Millennia..

Want to apply it for a family member, salary above 1.4L. No account in HDFC.

Upon trying from HDFC website (Millennia page), we were shown Diners privilege, TneuPlus and Swiggy LTF.

Mailed HDFC but they said they can't do anything can we can only apply "auto-suggested" cards online.

Considering offline application, but would lose around 2000 in vouchers.

Any alternatives/suggestions?

Take Swiggy ltf. I heard hdfc will change the policy and consider swiggy as core card so it'll be useful for bank discount offers

Thanks, good to know!

In my case, a 6-year-old MoneyBack was converted to MoneyBack+ only last year 🥲 with a limit enhancement of ₹7,000 . Best of luck to you though!

I don't want f¥$€ing MoneyBack+ as a upgrade.
CL is 2.5L on money back.

Last month I asked Priority Desk to upgrade it to either Regalia Gold or DCB, they took my salary slips, bank statements and ITR and said sorry we can't upgrade, holy moly hdfc mfk why did they take the documents if they're simply denying the upgrade.

Close the chaddiphasi card and be peaceful 😁

I also have an MB+ of 1.5 years. They are neither upgrading the card nor enhancing the limit. Got Fed up and stopped using it & have recently got Pixel Rupay....it's good for my UPI transactions & Reliance smart.

I read a post claiming Swiggy and TNI are core cards going forward... They will work for sales also.

I doubt that's ever going to happen. No ecom will allow it's competitor card to be eligible for its promotion.

Cobranded cc are designed as a loyalty cards. Implementation in india was faulty. Icici apay was ltf, many got fk axis/tata neu as ltf. Logically they should have been priced cc to keep customers from switching.
E.g. The same product is sold at same price in amazon & fk. Then people with apay cc would choose amazon( & those who prefer amazon would opt for apay cc in return) . People with fk axis would choose fk( & those who prefer fk would opt for fk axis cc in return).

Close it asap. Apply around fy end. You can easily get millenia ltf if not RG ltf.
