I think it makes sense as the card spends to get renewal waiver is just 1.5L a year. And you still get 4k MR points on paying 1000 ++ joining fees + 2k referral bonus. Which even at 0.33 value compensates for the fess.
Plus 4-5% returns on spends of > 72k a year.

Yes, the 12k points bonus is for the first year only.
From the second year, 40K points + 10K Taj voucher is still a great return and you can always negotiate the renewal fee with the customer based on your expenses.
