They know about alternative payment methods, but they want to use Bharat Connect-based apps. How can ICICI disable RBI/NPCI's Bharat Connect payment option for a customer and refuse to resolve the issue, stating it's a third-party app?
If due date is near then better use any other method than BBPS. It might be a temporary glitch because I was able to pay yesterday for Sapphiro from CRED. Keeping CIBIL intact is more important than BBPS.

I was paying for my Mom's ICICI card using cred since 2019. Last year migration to BBPS happened. Cred made payment using my cred registered nunber and last 4 digits of my Mom's card. And the payment went through BBPS even though I don't have such a card number linked to my account.

I have escalated to rbi after dealing with both cred/icici. They are of no help.

I'm going to escalate a complaint via CPGRAMS as this is clearly an error arrising at icici end.

You should contact RBIO.

My family member who has been paying their ICICI Bank credit card bills through Bharat Connect (formerly BBPS)-based apps like Cred, Mobikwik, SBI UniPay, BHIM, GPay, Phonepe etc., is now unable to do so. All these apps are showing the error: "Customer details entered are invalid. Please verify."—even though the registered mobile number and the last four digits of the card are correctly entered.

ICICI Bank customer care was unhelpful, so they escalated the issue to the MD’s Desk. However, senior management provided the same response as customer care, stating that Bharat Connect is a third-party platform and that ICICI Bank has no role in the matter.

What should I do in this situation? Since all credit card bill payment apps in India based on Bharat Connect, ICICI Bank’s refusal to take responsibility for RBI guidelines seems unreasonable.

Can anyone share RBI circular link where RBI has mandated that all credit card payments must be made through BBPS?

When I faced this issue, it was because somehow my old number was there in Cust ID while CC number was changed to new one.

So what I did was changed it everywhere to new one in Savings, Cust ID and CC and BBPS gave no problem therafter. This problem may also come when last 4 digits of two cards are having same digits and mobile number either same or different bank. Same bank it won't fetch or fetch only one bill while other don't. Other bank it gives error like invalid details.

RBI hasn't mandated anyone. They have told banks to onboard BBPS or have their own netbanking/site for CC payment processing. You don't have to forcefully use BBPS you can pay via netbanking if card belongs to same bank by having savings account with them or Billdesk page where you can pay via any applicable method. Many CC providers are yet to onboard BBPS.

I request you to have an unused mobile number in that card. It will take 1-2 days to update in bank records while 3-7 days in BBPS. Don't forget to tell bank you want it to be changed in savings/Cust ID too if you are having those relationship products. 🙂 If only CC then no problem. Just tell in CC/Cust ID.

My family member has never changed their mobile number linked to their ICICI Bank credit card and had been paying their credit card bills through Bharat Connect-based apps until last month. All of their ICICI Bank credit cards have different last four digits, and this issue started after they received the Sapphiro Dual LTF card.

Did ICICI Bank intentionally break the Bharat Connect payment option after issuing the LTF Sapphiro card? Now, they are refusing to provide support for the Bharat Connect issue, citing it as a third-party app app.

They are receiving OTPs and all transaction alerts on their registered number. Actually, it was an upgrade offer, not a new application for the Sapphiro card. ICICI Bank contacted them regarding the LTF Sapphiro upgrade offer, and they simply gave their consent to upgrade.
ask them to change registered ph number temporary

rbi ko icici ko ban karna tha naaki kotamk.

Login your icici credit card on net banking and check mobile number updated there.

You will still receive otp but mobile number is delinked with your credit card register profile.

Bro, Nothing like this what you are assuming that ICICI intenitonally break Bharat Connect payment.

After getting new card it can take upto 30 days for that to be workable on TPA like BBPS. As I said, sometimes things take their own sweet time in life but settle down eventually. Already pointed out, banks has to provide data to BBPS for updation of all CC and linked mobile number every week/month. When you are fetching from BBPS and getting invalid combination it's because when BBPS sending data to bank's server to get the bill details, somehow things are still adding up there. I believe it will resolve on itself soon.

From mobile number change to CC change you have to face problem from few days to few months. Escalations may or may not help in such cases. Also get the linked mobile number checked at bank's end by visiting branch and get things refreshed as I suggested before and have a new unused mobile number linked to that particular card. Wait for a week.

When I changed, I wasn't able to fetch bill either from old number or new number for a week or more and then someday it started fetching bill. As my bill due date was 45 days away and I changed on first day after generation of current bill, it didn't bother me much.

Similar case was with UPI registration after updating mobile number. In that case it took a month but things gt settled on its own without any follow ups. It is impossible to know as to who is at fault for this. Things like these are automatic without any intervention and data exchanging between Banks, RBI and NPCI continuously at regular intervals. 🙂

All credit card payments are not required to be made via BBPS. All CC Payments processed by third parties have to be via BBPS. However, you need not use a third party. You can still make payments via NetBanking, UPI, IMPS/NEFT and via Cheque / cash (the latter may attract charges for some banks).

But They are facing this issue with their old ICICI cards.
That's why I asked you to for one visit branch and get everything refreshed by changing/updating mobile no. in Acc. / Cust ID and CC. Updation of data no matter a new card, changed card or whatever has started the mess.

Another mess which one can face was faced by my friend whose mobile number was attached to some other person CC like he had 67 in mobile ending and the other one had 76 and bank wrongly kept it 67. After that he started getting error of invalid combination. Visit to branch clarified him what was wrong actually.

Bhai ghar baith ke ya bahot zyada soch ke problems solve nahi hoti. Unko solve karna padta hai.

I had a mobile number which when updated in bank created problem because same mobile number was used by me to create a separate Pockets App account and then mess started for me. But as I kept record of everything I do, it was easy for me to detect the problem. I called ICICI and got that pockets account closed and problem solved.

Pls visit bank for once. 🙂 People there aren't that stupid what people outside think about them. They will help you faster if you explain with patience.
