My family member who has been paying their ICICI Bank credit card bills through Bharat Connect (formerly BBPS)-based apps like Cred, Mobikwik, SBI UniPay, BHIM, GPay, Phonepe etc., is now unable to do so. All these apps are showing the error:
"Customer details entered are invalid. Please verify."—even though the registered mobile number and the last four digits of the card are correctly entered.
ICICI Bank customer care was unhelpful, so they escalated the issue to the MD’s Desk. However, senior management provided the same response as customer care, stating that
Bharat Connect is a third-party platform and that ICICI Bank has no role in the matter.
What should I do in this situation? Since all credit card bill payment apps in India based on Bharat Connect, ICICI Bank’s refusal to take responsibility for RBI guidelines seems unreasonable.
Can anyone share RBI circular link where RBI has mandated that all credit card payments must be made through BBPS?
