SBI credit card limit reallocation

I got and pre-approved offer for SBI octane rupay credit card and I would like to try it and they offered without joining fee.

While trying to complete the application process it asked me to adjust the credit limit between my existing SBI cashback credit card and the new octane credit card.

I will currently adjust the credit limit between the two cards and apply for the octane credit card but I have two questions here:
1) Once I applied by distributing the limit between the two cards, will I be able to change the limits for those cards or not? If I can what will be the process for it?
2) I have a limit of 1.2l currently for cashback card and I'll allocate 80k to octane card for now. If in any case I wanted to close the octane card, then what will happen to limit I added to that card. Will the limit between added back to my cashback card or it'll be lost?

1. You can change limit later on by calling customer care. But I would suggest u allocate only 30/40k for octane card unless u have anything in plan to purchase using sbi card offer.
2. Before closing transfer the limit back to cashback card. Do it one month before closing. Sometime they say system is not working etc etc. u can transfer in 2/3 times also.

1. Once you allocate the limit you won't be able to change the limit.
2.As of now it is possible to transfer your limit to other sbi card if one wants to close secondary sbi card. So you can transfer your limit from octance to cashback as of now but what happens in future is of no guarantee.

u can transfer back the limit again by calling cc team or via email

80k for Octane is not a good decision, in my opinion.
If you want to close the card in the future, you can transfer back the limit to your Cashback card, but not the full amount. You must keep at least 20k on the Octane card.

So, if the Octane card is closed in the future, you’ll lose 20k of your limit, and your Cashback card will retain 100k.

20k minimum may not be necessary. I kept 15k only. I did the transpose 3-4 months back. I was allowed to transfer even more. I don't know exactly upto how much. Maybe upto 10k or zero.
Let others confirm. But it's not 20k.

I just wanted to have maximum limit on octane just because if whenever needed we can use it avail discounts using sbi card as we won't be getting any instant discounts using cashback card.

Also thanks for sharing the information and I'll transfer the limit back to cashback card before closing octane card or will downgrade it normal BPCL card so that I'll also have a normal sbi card for any future needs.

Cashback: 110k
SimplySave: 15k (never used it) just took it to increase limit of cashback and for sbi card offers in mega sales.
I also have an existing simply save card with an limit of 10k but I never used it and also never got an limit increase on it and I have it since 4 years and will close it once I get the octane card

15k is floor limit for sbi cards having annual fee upto 999, above 999, we need to allocate minimum 40k.

Update:
Recently, I called SBI customer care to transfer the limit of my mother's SimplySAVE credit card (40k) to her Cashback credit card, which has a 60k limit.

Initially, they did not agree to transfer the entire limit but were willing to transfer up to 15k from the 40k limit. Despite repeated requests, they refused to transfer the full limit, stating that it could only be done if the SimplySAVE card was deactivated.

After taking some time to consider, I called them again and requested the permanent closure of the SimplySAVE card and a complete transfer of its limit to the Cashback card. They closed (deactivated) the SimplySAVE card and successfully transferred the entire limit.

My mother's SimplySAVE card was FYF and we didn’t use it much, so closing it didn’t affect us significantly.

Tips

  1. You can transfer the limit of your closed SBI credit cards to your current SBI credit card.
  2. There is a floor limit for SBI cards up to which the limits can be transferred. (This seems to vary, as different people have had different experiences.)
If you have closed an SBI credit card and want to transfer its limit, it’s worth trying your luck!
