Should I go for Amex Gold?

Thinking of getting an Amex Gold Card. Though, I have second thoughts whether it is a right decision.

Present Scenario:

Axis Vistara Signature: Offline Spends
DCB (LTF, so no issue of minimum spends) : Online Spends/Gift Vouchers/Offline (if accepted)
Amex Plat Travel (Got in Nov-22): Corporate Spends

Annual Spends approx 2-3L (personal spends only)

It's highly likely I will reach the 400,000 spend target for Plat Travel by June or July this year.
So won't be using it until Nov-23 unless Amex comes up with some exceptional offer.

Gold Card looks good if I consider fuel benefits, 5X multiplier (still not as good as DCB), gold collection and Lakme Salon Benefits but still not sure if it is worth the 4500+GST annual fee. And what should be the ideal use case for Gold?

You can take gold card, Amex does provide good retention offers in form of RP or waived off joining fees but that is completely on bank discretion , you can earn 1k points on spend of six transaction above 1k per month , plus you can use the Amex reward multiplier as well.

You can also apply through a referral link to get waived off joining fees of 1k plus taxes plus 2000 extra points on top of your welcome bonus of 4000 points

No, joining fees are not waived for gold.

If I were at your house, I would take the gold card for one reason: it is a charged card, so I can use it in an emergency and for Amex points and perks.

Possible to an extent but lot of facts matter and purely a relationship related decision

Not sure how much of a fuel benefir does gold give, but I'm pretty sure you can get it/MRCC as a compliment card. (Read it in a strategy somewhere, not sure if it was gold with plat charge or with regular plat travel)

i believe MRCC would also get you the 1500*4 txn + 20k txn bonus all WITHOUT any add-on fees.
Gold woul be a better deal if you're SURE your fuel spends etc are gonna be >20k/month.
MRCC is good for 240k/year.

I was reading technofino review about the AMEX gold card. Can someone please help me understand this % calculation?

13440 MR points if redeemed through Amazon voucher= 13440 * 0.39 = 5241 = 7.28%. This calculation is correct.

Coming to the actual % after deduction of annual charges of Rs. 5310 (4500 + GST), the overall gain becomes negative. How is the author saying that overall gain is still 4%?

Gold gives a standard 1k bonus every month which is a good stealer actually . When one holds platinum and gold together you can make most of the points with elite memberships in my opinion. That’s kinda working out for me .
