It’s generally more practical to avoid group purchases of smallcases, especially when it comes to rebalancing. Rebalancing needs to be prioritized early in the day, as some stocks might hit upper or lower circuits due to volatility. This can create dependency issues, where you’re waiting on others to handle certain trades.

Since these people are essentially unknown, how can you be sure they’ll respond on time every time? If you don’t get responses after 2–3 rebalancing attempts, you’re risking inaccurate weight calculations, which adds unnecessary hassle and complexity.

If you have enough capital, it’s simpler to invest directly in a smallcase and aim for around a 1% expense ratio. Otherwise, mutual funds are a more straightforward option. For a small amount like ₹7,000–₹10,000, you’re putting your money at risk and adding time-consuming dependencies on others, which could lead to data errors. Keeping it simple is often the best approach

Zerodha have Smallcases buying option, how it's different from above mentioned smallcase portfolios ?

Smallcases Managed by PMS are chargable . Either on fixed cost pm or as a % of AUM invested. The investment are made by platforms like Zerodha / Dhan / Groww etc. Only few smallcases are free and generally those are the one designed by the Smallcase team itself or which does not perform well .

The cheapest ones are from TejiMandi by Motilal Oswal and the most expensive in my opinion is Super Multiplier by PowerTrade . The pricing is determined by PMS house itself and there can be some referral / PMS specific promo codes as well .

The intention of trading smallcases is not everyone can buy all the smallcases . So trading makes sense for below reasons

1. For investors like me , I research myself and then invest . Using Smallcases I can evaluate the trends and sectors and within sectors specific stocks which PMS are betting bigon and then form an Opinion and invest accordingly

2.We cannot see much details except Sectoral Allocation & No of stocks & Rebalance History before investing in a Smallcase . Many a times we invest in a smallcase seeing the returns it has made but then see the stocls it has invested in and feel these are too volatile or risky picks and we lose money. In these cases as well trading helps as you get the PMS approach and only if the PMS strategy is aligned with your investment philosophy you proceed with the investments

3. Smallcase costs as a % are big if u are investing only few thousands to 1 or 2 lacs. Assuming a smallcase charges 3k for 3 months you are spending 12k annually as charges and if your investment is only 1 lac in the smallcase the cost come upto 12% of the portfolio value which is huge and it reduces your profits . So trading smallcases make sense as I invest in 1 small case and trade it with others and can get access to some other smallcase as well .

In case the OP is full then let others form a group. Please come forth and we can research ND choose some good smallcases.
For long term investing below PMS houses are good

1. Niveshaay - the pioneers you can say . A research team of 25+ and one of the best smallcases for mid and small cap investments .

I have access to their Flagships Mid & Small cap / Green Energy & Trends Triology

2. Teji Mandi from Motilal Oswal - Not very expensive like other Smallcases and comes with a legacy from the brand . I have access to Teji Mandi Multiplier .

3. Green Portfolio - Follow them on YouTube and you can see the kind of work they are doing . Similar to Niveshaay trying to uncover the smallcaps

4. Rupeeting - The portfolio managers come from good background and are merged with Paterson PMS recently so they have some knowledge . Have Value Migration from them

5. Intelsense - Abhishek Basumallik is an astute investor over the years on an investing forum and should work fine on the longer term

6. Capitalmind - Not sure of their strengths but they are going to close their smallcases in Sept 2025 . But they write some good articles

7. Majority of the smallcases pms to my knowledge these days are following momentum and quant with monthly churns which while it has worked over the last 4 years the backtesting in bear phases is still unknown as markets have only rallied post Covid when smallcases became popular ..

My personal eexperience

I hold a quant based smallcase which is supposedly one of the best manager Gulaq Gear 6 by Estee who manage PMS portfolio over 1000 cr but last 2 months in the downfall I am not at all happy with their performance.

Can share BM Smallcases ( VISION And focussed for a nominal fee) plus newsletters and timely reshuffle.

I am willing to coordinate if some of the members want to subscribe one of the most expensive small case in a group. Since the fees is way too high if we can pool money this would be easier on pocket and we can invest a suitable amount via this popular small case.
I will form a google sheet where the constituents will be updated on a regular basis with no delay.

Please show interest and I will compile, Will require minimum 5 more members to initiate. Prefer not to disclose the smallcase name publically, we can chat on DM for this.
Interested. Please send me the details.
