Today was trying to make a payment on a government website using my Standard Chartered Smart card, but the transaction kept failing saying that the card was blocked. I tried logging in to netbanking but I had forgotten the password, so when I tried to reset the password I was told that "details are invalid".

So I called up their customer care. I was told that since the due date was yesterday, and as they have not received the payment yet the card has been blocked.

I told them that I had made the payment yesterday (due date) only. However, since SCB card payment can be made only through Billdesk they payment will get reflected only after three days, so the card will be unblocked only then it seems.

Apparently it is Standard Chartered bank policy now to block credit cards if they don't receive atleast mininum due payment on the due date!

Making SCB card payments itself is a massive pain because they are not on BBPS or accept payments through UPI. You cannot schedule payments and have to make the payments through their clunky Billdesk interface by entering the credit card number twice and all. And on top of that you now have to mark your calendars three working days in advance so they don't block your card!
