Amex offering upgrade from Plat Travel to Plat Reserve ,worth it ?

Currently holding a Plat Travel with limit of 3.69L

Have been offered upgrade to Plat Reserve on call by customer care before when called for some unrelated query

Received below email today



I've been very content with my Plat Travel for last 2 years ,
spending 4L every year with Reward Multiplier as much as possible ,
using Taj Vouchers and Converting MR Points to Marriot Bonvoy for Marriot and ITC Stays ,
it's now my primary card for everywhere Amex is accepted

So my question is ,is it worth it to upgrade ?

No, because you wont get a free upgrade

Nothing with Amex is free ,but as long as it's worth it i don't mind paying the fee

Although in this case doesn't seem worth it

Don't upgrade because it will be more profitable for Amex.
The joining fee and renewal fee of platinum reserve or Platinum charge are both not worth it.

Best cards of Amex are MRCC, Gold charge and Platinum travel in that order.

Other Amex cards are not good value for money, just to show off

Now, got another Amex Platinum Reserve Credit Card upgrade offer for my Plat Travel Card..

They have added a couple of more benefits:

1) Complimentary Taj Epicure Plus memebership worth 10K+ GST
2) Complementay Accor Plus Membership worth 10K+ GST
3) $100 Hotel Credit & more with THE HOTEL Collection.

They are offering Rs 5,000 Taj Voucher as a limited period welcome benefit valid until June 30...

I think , they have sweetend the deal ..

Still not a great card for regular spends..
but improved a lot as far as benefits are concerned.. and better than the previous offering ....

Buy 6 x 1000 Amazon pay on Amex reward multiplier for 3x points.

Close it when you reach 18000 points and don't pay the second year renewal fee

Not worth 10k fee from spend based rewards perspective

No , your platinum travel won’t become LTF..

Not sure, does not seem like something that is worth while ?
Can you ask them if they would rather provide you MRP's ? I have heard that sometimes they can provide that on haggling with few agents.
I would feel the MRP's would be better value.

Right, Plat Travel has separate points bucket.
I am not sure if AMEX is going to allow you to apply for new card every year with FYF.
May be with someone else in you family can apply and you could use it ?
It is a bit of a hassle and it makes sense to compensate for a service you end up using.

I would encourage you to use MRCC and Plat Travel.
Gold and that 18k MRP's. Not worth it.
I also hear that sometime/most times, getting Gold makes MRCC as a complimentary card. I think you can explore that option too.
Could be better value.
But my personal recommendation would be MRCC and Plat Travel.
Those are good to go !

I'm having difficultly as it is to finish 4L on Plat Travel, i mostly finish it with travel bookings and big ticket Amazon purchases

1500 x 4 + 20k total Every month on MRCC might be difficult target to hit for me

The only charm for me with Gold Card is that it's a charge card with no pre set limit (i know it has a virtual limit)
