Tata Neu Infinity Card Application Rejected

Hello TF Community,

I have no prior relationship with HDFC Bank. I had applied for Tata Neu Inifity through the Tata Neu app. After a week, I have received this mail of rejection:
"Thank you for your recent application for a HDFC Bank Credit Card.
Unfortunately, we have had to decline your application at this time because we were unable to verify your identity through our Customer Verification process.
We wish to inform you that your application reference number XXXXXXX3914920O4 has been considered in line with the bank's internal credit policy (which is based on a combination of financial and related criteria and/or statistically determined scores to assess credit eligibility) and operating/credit processes (which include a combination of verifications, credit bureau reports and document verifications). We regret to inform you that we are unable to approve your application as it does not meet the above mentioned internal criteria of the bank.
"

I still don't understand what went wrong. I hold these cards as of now
Axis Magnus - 5.5L
ICICI Sapphiro (LTF) - 6.6L
Amex MRCC - 2.3L
SBI Vistara - 5L

Not sure why HDFC rejected the application? Is it because I don't have any relationship with them? What should I do in this case?

I will start a new job in a couple of months. Should I get the salary account opened with HDFC? Will they directly give me Diners Black or Infinia? My idea is to optimize spends, accumulate points/miles and then eventually transfer to a partner like Mariott/Accor/ITC. Not sure if I can do it with my current cards (given Magnus is dead)

Account with HDFC would help. People on the forum have mentioned that if you get Tata Neu (or any co-branded HDFC card), its difficult to get the core HDFC card, so that way, if your aim is to get core card, rejection should be taken positively. Having said that, best to check the CIBIL report to see if any outstanding in the past not settled. You can also write to HDFC Bank asking them the exact reason of rejection or escalate till you get the actual reason. HDFC Bank generally takes time before giving their no1 and no2 cards, but people have been lucky to get it early too. All the best your HDFC Bank journey!!

Most probably they sent some person for IPV at your aadhaar address and you were not there. Having said that opening any type of saving account with HDFC is a good idea.

It's a good thing they rejected in my opinion. According to their policy, if you hold any co-branded cards as your first card with HDFC, then you CANNOT EASILY get any Core card in the future if you wanted; it's possible but then it would be a headache getting one. So if you plan on getting any core card, better get that first and then you can get Tata Neu card as a floater (with shared limit) as the primary. Just my two cents. 🙂
