The Power of Credit Card Chargebacks: How Amex Sets the Gold Standard

When they provide a temporary credit, they don’t close the case immediately. In this particular instance, Mr. X uploaded proof of return and email communication with Amazon. This prompted Amex to close the dispute quickly and credit the money in the customer’s favor.

However, there is a possibility of rebilling if Amazon submits proof showing that the refund has already been processed.
I have personally seen cases where amex took 30 days to investigate and close the case.

I'm surprised anyone had to dispute amazon.com for a refund. I've never had an issue getting a refund for return. In fact, there have been many times, they refunded me if I had an issue and let me keep/dispose the product as I wish.

Even after returning all the units, Amazon didn’t refund his money. Additionally, Amazon has still not processed refunds for two more orders, which were returned (canceled delivery).

Amex US, but Amex India also follow same process
Follows the same process for chargeback yes, but the outcomes are different because of different rules in different countries. I have done chargeback multiple times with different bank and amex india is no different. They provide temporary credit and then refer it to investigation. Investigation time is shorter in amex though. For disputes less than 400 they straight away give permanent credit as it is not worth the investigation
 
Amex is the best when it comes to chargebacks. Indian Banks are very slow and have tedious process with long forms for chargeback which makes it a hassle. Whenever I am unsure of any product or website, I put my purchase on Amex.
More important question is .. can or will Amex show same level of proactive resolution in India? Given that India has more stringent regulations and tougher competition.

Here’s an example:

On November 11, 2024, Mr. X ordered 10 units of Apple AirPods using an Amex credit card. All items were delivered on November 12, 2024, but Mr. X found that all 10 units were damaged. He immediately contacted Amazon, which arranged a return pickup on November 14, 2024, for a refund.

Mr. X returned all the units on November 14, 2024, and waited until November 30, 2024, for the refund. Despite contacting Amazon multiple times, they failed to issue the refund even by December 17, 2024.

Finally, Mr. X filed a chargeback with Amex, uploading the return slip as proof. And guess what? Amex resolved the dispute in Mr. X's favor within minutes!

While the chargeback system is incredibly useful, it’s often underutilized. However, not all card issuers are as proactive as Amex. This is why I always say that no credit card issuer in India can match the level of customer service provided by Amex.
Is there any specific timeline, like from the date of transaction/purchase within specific days only the charge back can be claimed?

Because sometimes we may need to contact merchant which might take few days in that ?

@TechnoFino I have made a transaction on 16th feb 2025 on freecharge and transaction went pending at 11:03PM. and on next day i.t 17th feb 2025 the transaction went to success state at around 4:00 AM for the Gas Booking.

Now freecharge states everything fine and given orderID, transactionID, BBPS Reference ID.
In Gas booking app it states nothing, there is no booking request itself created.
I raised a complaint with Indane Gas provider , they mentioned it will take 7 working days to investigate and resolve.

Within what time i have to raise the chargeback from the transaction date ? or in paralle i need to raise a chargeback request now itself. please clarify

right now, you have to wait for reply from Indane gas. no need to file chargeback now.
