TRAI Launches Affordable Recharge Plans: 365 Days Validity At Just Rs. 10 (Suggested)

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published new rules to reduce costs and enhance the user experience of telecom services. Moreover, It helps consumers, especially those who depend heavily on basic calling and SMS or use secondary SIM cards for specialized functions like calls and SMS. Furthermore, the Telecom Consumers Protection (Twelfth Amendment) Regulations, 2024, were released on Monday. These include a number of significant modifications.

The regulations include cheap Rs 10 recharge plans with 365 days of validity and mandatory ‘voice-only’ plans for dual SIM users, which is very useful.

TRAI has issued an issue mandating the launch of different Special Tariff Vouchers for voice and SMS services. Again, this move will help the 2G feature phone subscribers – particularly the elderly as well as the rural masses – to avail of reasonably cheap recharge plans as per their requirements.

TRAI further intends to benefit users by increasing the validity of STVs from the current 90 days to 365 days. In addition, Significant amendments will be made to ensure users enjoy long-term affordability and convenience.

To change the recharge process, TRAI has done away with a colour-coding system for physical vouchers, making it an easier task to categorize into recharges. Moreover, This reflects the growing dependence upon online recharge methods with a focus on introducing cheap recharge plans.

UPDATE #1: Jio, Airtel to roll out Rs 10 recharge plans following TRAI's order

UPDATE #2: Jio.com is showing a ₹10 postpaid plan?

Awesome, now we will not get any calls for recharging the number that is simply kept for receiving calls.

Game changer !!

This was announced in Dec with no strict deadline for implementation and no repercussions for non compliance. Given the market monopoly, TRAI's impotence and incompetence, It would be miracle if this happens before next loksabha election.

Regulations are only as strong as a regulator. And a Regulator is as strong as the market and enteties it regulates. A monopolistic market can't be regulated. Dissolve TRAI and save some taxpayer money, we are gonna get F****d eitherway.

The only way to help Indian Public and save the indian telecom sector is to allow foreign companies to set shop without unnecessary redtape. If TRAI had people who could read and write and are not eating crayons. They would have copied tiered license like RBI

Tier C license for 2G only
Tier B license for 2G+3G only
Tier A license for 4G and 5G

Amendment effective bhi nahi huwe hain abhi, and you expect Telecom Operators before effective date?🤣
Correct, at this point this is waste of the paper it's printed on. And even if there was a deadline, why the F will it be followed. No repercussions, no regulation. Imagine RBI trying to ban a bank with just two banks active in the entire country 🤣🤣.

There is a reason RBI has tiered licenses to give itself the power to regulate. That's why it could stand up to Kotak and other degenerates like that.

Spot on even with so much power RBI finds itself powerless when it comes to a few entities. There should always be a balance. Antitrust laws bhai....Abi 40-50 years h parliament ki vocabulary me ane ko

All TSPs criticized separate Voice and SMS only pack, except BSNL. 😬

So, all other TSPs will be united to oppose so as to delay or not to follow as far as practicable.

They (COAI) only agree to demand reduction in licence fees from the 8% to 0.5-1%. 🤣

DoT be like:

It never gonna implemented.

We don't need them at 10. Because Companies also need to survive to give services.

Who is stopping them to bring unlimited call + limited SMS @1000, and limited call + limited SMS @500 for 365 days?
Data can be charged extra with longer validity.

The reason is internet is unlimited and voice is being said unlimited though it's using VOIP, so it's been confused for users.

Ok. In that case 1GB plan for 365 days may be enough for poor old age people who don't use internet. Why add 24 GB or per day data compulsorily.

They are basically looting poor and old and subsiding rich and young in the name of ARPU.
That's the reason, for low end mobile phones they have to pay for 2g, 3g, 4g spectrum too and they are equalising everything.

That's why we get such type of plans
