What will happen to traction on cards in social media after axis does devaluation

Exactly! I was the same as you, 2 years ago I only had icici amazon pay lifetime free cc. Now I hardly use it anymore, always using gyftr via Magnus for 24% instead of 5% Cashback on Amazon pay cc.

Everyone I know still goes for lifetime free credit cards. I have sometimes even tried explaining why they are worse off because of it but they can’t seem to wrap their head around the huge 10,000 rupees figure.

So now I understand it’s more about psychology rather than the actual value. I figured it’s not worth explaining anymore.

Unrelated note: Going to Bali in 2 days using free tickets I got on Magnus 😍
Exactly.. All the Best for your Bali Trip. How much reward points did it take to get the tickets?

Just remember the famous tagline of Casinos
HOUSE ALWAYS WINS

The amount of people who manages to get the maximum juice from the card will be in single digits. The balance not only finds their juice but also gives profit to the bank.

I would love the entry barrier for Magnus going up say 25 or 50k ( with corresponding welcome / renewal benefits) rather than devaluation of the current rewards program.
The issue I have with increasing entry fees is in my mind the bank isnt trustworthy. If they can devalue cards at a moments notice whereby their most premium cards lose lounge access while even entry/mid level cards of other banks have that benefit, it reeks of bad faith

Exactly
We lot of cc user thinks that banks issue rewards from their pockets to us and soon they will stop
But reality is entirely different which on an outline no one can understand easily
Even after milestone benefits of Magnus card still Axis bank will be generating more revenue by affiliated merchants tieup like grabdeals and points transfer partners, traveledge etc
MDR is direct earnings for card issuer and defaulters minimum 5 to 8% of users make bank rich by paying interest upto 100% in some cases
Another revenue pie is by emi enthusiasts even a 10k swipe ppl convert into 6m emi due to financial constraints
So don’t worry about devaluing it won’t happen easily in Magnus card
Maybe some exclusive mcc adds on like we lost house rent
Happy spending guys🎉🙌
Obviously no lender pays from its pockets. But if the card owner gets benefited then they should be contended and happy about it. I booked domestic tickets on travel edge for less than what the airline was quoting and on top of that getting 5X rewards.

One more advantage with Tavel Edge is that you can apply the special fares (student, vaccinated, senior citizen) which the Airlines offer and get 5X with Magnus. In HDFC SmartBuy, option of special fares is not there so you pay more to get 5X.

Now suppose tomorrow axis raise the annual charges to 35k (below reserve) then what other benifit u want from it to continue magnus

I think the reference is for Entry (joining fees) and renewal may remain the same or also increase for new customers but I don't think they'll change it for existing customers

I would appreciate
1. Free airport transfers
2. Better customer support
3. More transfer partners (Virgin Atlantic?)
4. 5x points on booking with travel partners directly as well just like Atlas

But don’t get me wrong, even if no additional benefits are given, I would still happily pay 35k per annum with the benefit structure as is.

Yes as long as we get same reward for 35k fee and all other feature will be good rather than devaluation.

Maybe we could add the following:
  • Priority Pass with unlimited international lounge access for add-on cards as well
  • Better TAT for normal, accelerated and milestone RPs
Honestly, despite everything, even if the only did the following, it would add great value:

2. Better customer support

Axis has certainly changed the credit card game in recent past. In the world of devaluation by other card companies, Axis is still offering a lot of better cards. Not only Magnus, but Atlas, Vistara branded and etc offers better returns.

But recent devaluation of Ace CC, might indicate some upcoming changes.
But as many members are expressing, I too believe that HNI cards will be unaffected by devaluation for some more time(I hope so as I recently got Magnus, and want to extract some fruitful benefits before devaluation).

Has the devaluation begun in the major miles partners - Vistara and Accor? I think in next 4-5 months we will see heavy rationalization. Yatra 10x edge vouchers too unavailable for a week

I have seen almost 10x traction on credit card discussions once axis brought crazy miles and milestones benefits. Wonder how the dust will settle once axis has burnt all its cash. The current rewards are too good to be true and cant last forever.

Then the normal 3-4% like pre axis magnus etc. period will come. These days so many advisory services on how to use miles has sprung up 🙂
Banks buy Airmiles, Hotel Points at dirt cheap rate say approx at value of Rs. 0.2-0.25 per point. They offer for Magnus and Reserve at approx Rs.0.8 ratio in which they make profit only.

Coming to Banks and Airlines they offer banks at that cheap rates because usually Airlines and Hotels will have rooms vacant and seats vacant while flying, so they want to fill it up. This inventory is called "Distressed Inventory" in their terms. So win win for Airlines and Hotels, but this is not viable on large scale. Usually Super premium cards are of 2% only of the lot the scale of users are less.

When banks run out points or Hotels/Airlines increases the value of points then devaluation happens. So lets hope the party lasts longer and enjoy the party.

Why airlines selling at 0.25 value. They can sell at low prices to customers and it will be swallowed fast

If that happens already Airlines are operating under losses. This process is just for cover up losses and to glue the customer by offering them with best service on travel. I had not used Vistara earlier due to its network issues towards south (Hubs: Mumbai and Delhi), but after Magnus and Vistara Infinite I started travelling on Vistara even on having connectivity issues.

Typically Airline & Hotels encashes these points by bulk selling. Reward programs buy them to lure their customers with offers that looks lucrative on paper.
Actually 50-90% of the total points ever earned by members does not ends up in redemption. Earlier it was upwards of 90% but due to online option, it is getting better day by day. Just remember the amount of loyalty points that you have earned in your lifetime, how much you have managed to encash? Those Shoppers Stop, Kingfisher, Jet, Lifestyle, Credit cards (specially old days) etc..
