Hi Guys,

Over time, many banks have evolved, and several new players have entered the market. Finding the best bank in terms of customer service, wealth management, IT infrastructure, branch network, and more is becoming increasingly difficult.

While I share my experience here, I’d love to hear yours. I encourage you to participate in the poll and share your experience with the worst bank you’ve dealt with.

My Experience:

The worst bank based on my experience is "IndusInd Bank"

I have been using their account for the past five years. Their branch service is poor, and their IT infrastructure is worse than that of many PSU banks.
I had to wait two months for a cheque to clear, which was the worst part.
Their mobile application works in mysterious ways.
I couldn't even get the credit card I needed, despite having a good TRV.
Overall, I've faced many tech issues with this bank that I haven't included here. If you're interested, you may go through some of my threads.

I agree
Their only good thing is they provide the best FD interest rates among the top 10 banks

I only bank wit Union Bank and HDFC. Have a joint account in BOI and an old FD in BOB. Experience with HDFC has been bad but won't call them the worst. ICICI used to be really bad when I had an account many years ago.

Have had difficult experiences with many in the list. Have had the best experience so far with Federal Bank. While there are issues with IDFC First, they have redeeming qualities too.
IndusInd and RBL the least impressed with. RBL has to be the worst. Never credit CC reward points, and for the last more than 5 years, they don't even give a reasonable response, don't even understand the issues. When I talked about accessibility and TalkBack. the CC executive thought I was talking about talktime and asked me about the recharge plan on my phone!!!

Had a terrible experience with HDFC. The manager, RM, and staff at the branch were so arrogant and lacked basic manners. They kept pushing FDs, ULIPs, and other investment products. It took them over two weeks to close my company’s current account, while ICICI got it done in one visit and within a day.

Honestly, I’m so glad I closed both my personal and company accounts with HDFC. Don’t think I can ever have a meaningful relationship with that bank again. I still hold the HDFC Swiggy card since I’m an avid Swiggy user, but I can’t get the HSBC Live+ because Goa is unserviceable, so I’m stuck with it for now.

On the bright side, SBI has been a refreshing change. Polite staff, no pushy sales calls, and just smooth banking. ICICI has also been fantastic for my current account. No fuss, great app and net banking, and the manager is super proactive and polite. Feels like a day-and-night difference!

Canara - Website and Mobile app is juzt for nothing. For everything, we need to go to branch. Branch people don't respond properly.
Which Canara account do you have? I was thinking of opening an Aspire account since it’s zero balance. How’s your overall experience with the bank?

I have classic account and wanted to
convert to Select account. They don't even know Select account and it's benefits. No option for choosing in app or website. They said that they can convert after March only.

Canara credit card - Customer care don't have any provision to check from their side if we ask for any transactions or fees related queries. They always wanted us to go to branch for checking and clarifying the issues.

Damn that sucks! I guess I'll open one more SBI acc in same branch in that case as secondary acc - I really like their service and there are no charges except DC. I know manager and asst manager well so they take most requests over call / email and app and website is alright too (kinda ehh but works) - better than getting 100 calls from RM regarding ULIP or getting charged INR 600 for non-maintenance of MAB.

HDFC blocked my debit card two years ago when I was alone in the US on the very first transaction, even though I had informed them about my travel plans over both call and email, and they reassured me it would work fine. It took them two days to unblock it, and I had to keep calling customer care at night, spending $$$ on international calls. To make things worse, I didn’t have any credit card at the time except the HDFC Indigo, which I had forgotten at home.

Meanwhile, my SBI Mastercard debit card worked flawlessly everywhere. OTPs were seamless, tap-to-pay worked at Subway, and the overall experience was smooth and hassle-free. Thank god I had something reliable! DBS worked for debit card payments too, but they charged a 5% TCS so I avoided using it. SBI FTW! People can say whatever they want, but SBI has been the most hassle-free and reliable for me, and I’ll die on this hill.
