It's up to your relation with the bank. Some people have top tier cards as ltf either by upgrade from old ltf card or just good pay/ huge itr. These individuals don't even care about card being ltf and either they reverse their fees Or meet spending limit. If you keep using a card for many years then bank will mostly reverse your fees Or make it ltf to retain you.

Bank will convey the message to you. I think it happen quite a lot else why would anybody prefer upgrading. In case of you asking them to upgrade will have charges.

Very rarely do they issue LTF super premium cards, they instead tell you that you’re getting the same value in reward points (for eg. 12.5k points on paying Infinia Metal edition’s joining fees of 12.5k (+gst)

I’ve seen people with PVC Infinia LTF but yet to see someone with metal LTF, please feel free to correct me if i’m wrong

Everything again depends on your relation with the bank as a whole, and sometimes some convincing skills with phonebanking

Most people get LTF from HDFC for any cards, as you know. But for Super Premium cards (i.e. Regalia, DC Black/Privilege, Infinia etc) they usually depends on your relation. Most people get Regalia as LTF but for Infinia it's very though, but as one person said, it doesn't really care those people just reverse their Annual Fee by spending a lot.

I can share my case: i got titanium LTF free in 2011 after that i my upgrades are LTF and currently holding Infinia LTF

till HDFC Regalia all the cards can be turned LTF easily...

HDFC DCB - can be asked for LTF with the bank on the basis of the relationship.
HDFC Infinia PVC - People got it LTF during COVID times. The bank is not issuing Infinia PVC now.
HDFC Infinia Metal - Bank is currently not giving/accepting LTF right now.
