Yup I know that you don't have to sell the shares.
But I'm referring to taxation when you gift shares.
If you are liable to pay the tax even on gifting, then it makes no sense to transfer shares from your parents demat to your demat.
Instead you can just sell there and buy them in your account.
No need of going through the hassle of conversion from one format to other format.
