What I really meant was some antivirus sellers actually profit out of the fear of viruses. There have been speculation that some such sellers actually write viruses themselves to create the atmosphere of fear in the first place! :)

I was wondering (half-jokingly of course) whether or not here also fraudsters themselves are taking advantage of the fear so created by selling insurance products as well! :)
.
Haha, that is only possible only if banks are also complicit in this as most of the times banks directly promote CPP.

Of course many anti-virus companies create virus/malware themselves. They regularly hire hacker to improve their products.

It is same every where. Pharmacy/biotech companies also create disease.

Banks creating these scams are unlikely. But yes they do take advantage of the situation.

These scammers are making a hell lot of money....
How easily they wipe out lakhs of rupees from others' pockets and only a few get caught. They too get bail after 3-4 months and then back to business.
Very flourishing Industry
Well these are rackets. In most big rackets police, politicians and local goons are involved.
India is one the worst country in this department. In india, worst place is west bengal & then noida/Gurgaon. Many high level police are involved themselves. Theres proof of police going to these people and picking up cash. But sadly no steps are being taken.

On the other hand in usa it comman to share cc details to cs for ordering on behalf of customer
Credit card fraud happens everywhere; in fact, it's higher in the US, but the process of chargeback is simpler in the US. Debit cards are a whole other thing. American banks don't give chargebacks on debit cards that easily.

Trust Me

Hey, this seems to be a screen mirroring scam where they mirrored your screen and grabbed the OTP. It was expected using TeamViewer and other such apps but not using Google meets. This shows that they have altered their modusoperandi to avoid suspicion.

However, they would not have been able to pull it off, if they didn't get your card CVV. It is generally recommended not to share any card details but in any case if you are compelled, the CVV stands as the fail safe. If you wouldn't have provided that, they couldn't have done anything.

Anyway there is nothing that can be done by crying over spilt milk. I guess intimating the bank and your state cyber crime is your best course of action. Also, do verify if your card came with any inbuilt fraud protection / card protection plan which can be availed.

Just so that you know, icici does call from their Mumbai office landline (with 022 std code) verified on truecaller. Also, they do not ask for card number.

Hope icici takes care of this issue for you as technically the OTP was grabbed from you on false pretenses and not direct read out by you to a 3rd party.

All the best !
Didn't know Google meet can capture live screen recording also. Thought it only had camera access. This is really scary

My father in law is MP in Andhra pradesh I will go to his house tomorrow and I will ask to call to sp about to take FIR on this fraud
Just ask your father in law to call the city ssp and chill. Your money will come back by evening. This thing you should have told in the beginning 🤣
MP is a big big thing in India. Many ex mp's are busy shifting wagons to just get a ticket these days 🤣

Yes that's what is surprising. Their international transactions are also on always and they don't get Otp also but still they rarely get scammed
