Effective 1 February 2025, a 0.75% convenience fee + GST will be charged on the purchase of Amazon Pay and Amazon Shopping gift vouchers via e-voucher platform on Reward Multiplier.

Amex has also joined the bandwagon of charging convenience fee on Amazon vouchers. Firstly there is shortage of high denomination Amazon pay vouchers and now this. Received this mail for Plat travel card.

For someone redeeming from the gold collection, the 72000 spends would make more sense direct on Amazon. As the additional points you would get on multiplier would be 1444 that would be worth about Rs 480. You end up paying 636 for that. Besides the inconvenience of the 250 voucher!
BTW, the higher values on Marriott Bonnvoy that is attributed to Amex points are often misleading as you often get better rates for the hotels on other portals and there would be additional card discounts too.

The whole point of getting into Amex-Marriott ecosystem is to maximize on the membership benefits. There are multiple benefits of booking directly, including but not limited to elite membership benefits, no credit card authorization etc.

Also, it's a myth that third party bookings are always cheaper, because it could swing both ways. For example, Courtyard Mumbai for Feb 14-21 is ₹114,400 on MMT for which you'll have to pre-pay by Feb 12; and the same is ₹108,700 on Marriott for which you can settle the bill at the time of check-out. If you book direct, you earn 10,600 points at base level and 18,600 points at highest level on this booking, which can be combined with Amex points for further booking. One more important thing to note is that MMT coupon codes will rarely work at branded hotels. Even if you end up finding a lower price, the points that you'll earn on direct booking will comfortably compensate for the difference.

In my opinion, if you're going to book a Marriott or Hilton, you should always book directly.

Amex Gyftr starts 0.75% Convenience fees+gst for Amazon pay and Amazon shopping vouchers from 1st Feb. Bad news for those who use it to only buy Amazon vouchers.

I was helpless here
No use of MRCC other than this
Bro on MRCC, if you spend 20K you get 1000+1000 bonus point and 2x on spend i.e 800... So for additional amount of around Rs 200 (0.75% = 150+GST) you get 2800 points, even if you redeem for cash its worth Rs. 700. So still you'll come out on top. For me i am disappointed because I was hoping that higher denomination would be available but currently only 500 is available.

Can someone simplify, instead of saying convenience fee, say for Platinum card what’s the effective rate and for Platinum travel what’s the effective rate

Whether to buy Amazon Gift Card from Amex Reward Multiplier Portal or Amazon directly using MRCC?

Considering 1 MR point at 50 paise (a bit optimistic 😊), if buying AGC from Amazon using MRCC, we get returns of 1%. If buying from Reward multiplier portal with MRCC, we get 2% but subtract 0.9% (convenience fee+gst) we get a net return of 1.1%. Milestone benefits are same whether we buy from amazon or RMP.

So overall, no great benefit in still purchasing AGC from RMP for MRCC.
Advantage with buying from amazon- buy tye required denomination as one gift card and no 10k limit per per card as with RMP

I have gold charge I need to do 5 1000 rs transactions a month please suggest me the best option
Isnt that 6 transactions of 1k ? You can ise gyftr vouchers across amazon pay, amazon shopping but those include 1% charges …you can go for other gyftr options like amazon fresh, swiggy vouchers etc….
