1% cashback was there for utility bill payments from beginning. It was not for Credit card bill payment.

That's the reason this thread was created in the first place.

If you try any credit card bill payments though HDFC billpay, the merchant in your transactions will appear as 'CCBBPSNO' which is not a utility MCC. Previously, we were seeing 'BBPSBILLPAY' and 'HDFCBILLPAY,' which were considered utility MCCs (4900) and therefore, we were earning points.

HDFC has finally fixed this loophole after years. Now, only option is SBI Unipay, JioFinance, etc.

Note: I cannot confirm those websites yet as weekend doesn't get counted in working days.

Lately I encountered some forums on this platforms where people were asking the mcc codes the cc issuer gives cb on? I was wondering what is the use of that because we don't know under which mcc the store has ?

Eterna or Atlas?

Both as long as mcc falls within their non-restricted category. Eterna no restrictions for milestone, so you may miss regular rewards but milestone works but Atlas there are couple of categories not considered for milestone, do test transaction and proceed if it is the desired one.

Again, it is not related to the purchase we do but the transaction category they report to banks.

How can we check in which mcc category these merchants fall or generally which merchant falls in which category? Can banks change it as per their convenience or there are rules for that?

shop owners and network platform decide.

Note: same applicable from Infinia to MB+ every card. NOthing new, exist from long time.. Maybe you never observed that much. If its a Govt. MCC Infinia gives 0, Grocery 5RP upto some limit. Its all about MCC and everywhere with every card.

If you never observe issue with Infinia or any other cards with you, then most likely...
