10k Taj Voucher Amex Plat Redemption at The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai Madurai

I recently redeemed my 10k taj voucher at the The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai Madurai which I had received along with my Amex Platinum Travel Card and want to share experience of the same.

I had trouble finding the best Taj Hotel for ~10k for a good vacation and I am creating this post to share my experience and invite others to share similar experiences of Taj Hotels so that we are aware of top Taj Hotels which are affordable via Amex Vouchers.

I reside in Bangalore and did a road trip to Rameshwaram and during the trip I stayed at the The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai Madurai.

Room Price: 9500 Including breakfast excluding GST & 11210 Including GST (As of today, I see the prices vary b/w 7 to 10k for the next 3 months)
Stay Date: June 20 to June 21, 2023
I placed order via the web and selected Standard Rates as I was planning to use the voucher, if you have an account with tatacliq.com then you can use member rates but technically you are not allowed to use Taj vouchers if you get member rates (I have read that this varies from place to place depending on the local management).
How to indicate that you will use voucher: There is a comment option while booking on the website, you can enter that you will be using the voucher and you can also mention this when you check-in and you can submit the voucher while checking out.

This was my first time in Taj and please ignore if I am sharing any obvious details. The hotel is situated in ~60 acres of land and informed security that we are checking in at the gate and it was 2km drive before we reached the main reception. As we reached the reception, we saw a peacock dancing right in front of us and we watched this for few minutes and the staff welcomed us and clicked some photos and they also informed that there were close to ~60 peacocks & peahens in the resort.

We took the welcome drink and checked-in, loved the place. We saw peacocks everywhere, chilled near the swimming pool surrounded by peacocks and later used their sports room (which was small with few indoor games, would not recommend this).

but as you said 11k per night you get that means its need to be even the price 20k to get 15k rate ? As i see rate around not even less than 38k crazy man i need a luck like you finding this hotel in this price even if i have shareholder discount its not possible to get that close

See Taj MG Road is available for 10th inclusive of tax standard rate 10k and member rate 9k around. Without tax standard rate is 8500 and member is 7650

Here you for today Taj west end prices without tax is 13500 for standard rate and member rate 11475. Attached pic with tax and without tax for reference. Heritage Guest Room is quite large. I had stayed in the same room this is just opposite to receiption and beside the all day dinning as soon as you enter. It has separate clothing room plus big bathroom with bath tub lot of amenities kept enough for your stay.

Afaik, you cannot pay hotel fees at discounted rates by vouchers sourced from amex membership rewards. Am I right?

It depends. Mostly I have paid vouchers for member rates too

Have you tried it recently.taj has recently updated the system.didn't work for me last week at Rambagh.

Last visit was in June 15th to 17th june Tajwestend I used voucher to pay some bills which I had booked through shareholder 25% discount bill was around 42k inclusive of lunch and dinner something 20k I paid through voucher and paid remaining. I also took 25% discount using the food and beverages voucher which can be used upto 10 times valuing max total of 25k. That is why bills came less and paid 21k by card

In 2nd may 2024 to 4th may 2024 my bills for two days inclusive of breakfast booking plus lunch and dinner came to final total 26k for two days. I paid 10k voucher. This was at Jaimahal Palace Jaipur

I think from july the system has upgraded.jaimahal used to take epicure spa vouchers also even though it was not allowed as per TnC.but now since upgraded system its not possible.

I think they can now track also which is an amex voucher and which is the normal taj gift card.Anyways just giving you heads up.In future if you able to use it do share your experience

Both AMEX and Taj are not allowing to redeem vouchers at Member's rate. They have it mentioned on the tnc as well. You are lucky it seems.

Choose west end, very beautiful
Taj MG road is an okayish property

I just put the rates I never knew you stay in bangalore. If the offer for desh deko offer provides everything then youa should go for it. Normally I get complimentary breakfast everytime I book. I used to stay in bangalore earlier then I used travel to jaipur mumbai delhi gujrath. So when I come down to bangalore I always check which dates have lesser price and I book. Incase I don't get I stay in raddison or marriot or ITC. Most of the time I seen ITC has affordable price.

If you need a big walking around nature Taj Westend is beautiful place to stay they have a mini zoo for swans and turkey and their is a old temple in premises if u want to pay a visit and food is very good. I always tend to get buffet dinners for 2 at 3k of course drinks are quite pricey. Good architecture of guest rooms it depends what type of room u want since am a regular every qtr I get room upgrades when I get mom who is aged they are considerate towards senior citizens. Friendly staff from bottom to top if we too behave well... reason I have seen some showing attitudes.

Oh I never knew you stay in bangalore looking at your name though you are from Nepal of north east Bharath. If you are in bangalore then you should try chennai mumbai or rajasthan. You can try vishakapatnam very affordable you have both ITC and Taj beside I stayed there before opposite to RK beach.

Normally if am bored and want to relax I would sometime stay for a day when I see affordable price.
