Final Notes

  1. RuPay cards are on par with Visa/Mastercard in terms of offers and features.
  2. Newly launched RuPay cards might not immediately qualify for e-commerce offers—contact the bank for updates (Everything starts working perfectly after a few months).
  3. RuPay's partnerships ensure seamless international acceptance.

Just sharing my thoughts on Rupay Cards.

Though I am happy overall by getting a Rupay Credit card from BoB, today I faced a big disappointment when I was trying to use my Rupay CC online. I was trying to book flight tickets on 'Cleartrip' today, to avail 20% discount on flights using BoB CC offer. To my shock, I found out that Cleartrip does NOT accept Rupay cards as payment method!! Because of this, I had pick another bank offer, settling with 12% discount. I also remember an incidence when I was trying to buy some Tea from GTAC's Tea Lounge in Guwahati, I saw its POS declining Rupay cards as payment method.

I am shocked to know that our own payment network does not work in the sites and POSs of our own country. A payment network can give attractive many offers. But in the end, it has to work on the basic things expected from it, one of which is acceptability. I am not expecting worldwide acceptance of Rupay Cards(though I have a great desire that it may be accepted worldwide), but I at least expect nationwide acceptance of them. I cannot roam with my pocket having only a Rupay card inside it. I have to carry a VISA card as a backup. Either Rupay should work with merchants and banks to enable near 100% acceptability, like VISA and Mastercard, or the Govt. should itself pass a mandate to force banks and merchants to accept Rupay cards, if they are accepting other payment networks. I don't think that there would be a loss to any stakeholder due to this mandate.
I think primary problem is that rupay is dependent on discover network and doesn't actually have its own. And discover in itself might not be present everywhere.

Cleartrip accept RuPay cards and already used 20% discount offer using BOB RuPay premier credit card.

Main problem is cleartrip's acquirer bank server sometimes goes down and RuPay otp page is not open. Try multiple times or after some times. RuPay payment gateway will open.

I complaint multiple times on cleartrip, they always reply me -

"We are sorry to hear that you are facing an issue while making a new booking. As checked, payment failed error is due to server issue or due to issue with the payment gateway. Request you to please try booking the ticket after some time."

Me -

This error always come when we use RuPay cards. RuPay card work perfectly on other merchants. Change your Acquirer bank for RuPay card acceptance. My friends are also facing same problem on cleartrip merchant for RuPay card payment.

Cleartrip -

"As checked, there is no issue with the website. Issue may happen with the payment gateway."

RuPay has its own payment gateway. Discover is International partner.

RuPay 3D secure gateway name Paysecure & recently Indigenously developed "BEPG" gateway.

BEPG full form - Bharat eCommerce Payment Gateway.

BEPG migratation still under progress - https://www.npci.org.in/PDF/npci/ru...-certification-for-BEPG-project-for-ecomm.pdf

RuPay's domestic network also expand in Bhutan, UAE, Bahrain, Singapore. I already saw some International merchants have RuPay logo banner on their local shops, petrol pumps, restaurants, Hotel, Hospitals in Bhutan, UAE, Bahrain, Singapore.

Oh! I didn't know that is is primarily the issue with the acquirer bank! This info is really helpful. So after reading your post, I went to Cleartrip again for experimenting with some cards. I found that even my CITI Bank Credit Card, which is a VISA powered card, is throwing the same error on Cleartrip!! Also, I found that Rupay Debit cards from SBI and PNB were working fine on the payment page!! Also, The PNB debit card's OTP page was presented by HDFC bank!!

All these things made my head spin...

Can someone explain me all these observations?

I also noticed that Cleartrip is using at least 2 payment gateways, which are Razorpay and PayU, both of which accept Rupay cards. Axis Bank CCs were also working fine on Cleartrip.

Maybe, this is a problem specific to banks like BoB and CITI Bank. Maybe, its not an issue with the payment network or payment gateway. Can someone try BoB VISA CC for mock payment on Cleartrip and see if BoB VISA cards are also facing the same problem?

BOB visa CC working perfectly, 24x7 working on cleartrip.

The main problem with acquirer bank, Razorpay and PayU both tieup with multiple acquirer banks to accept RuPay/Visa/master cards.

Payments gateway companies choose specific banks to accept some specific bank card networks.

Im also facing same problem on Intermiles merchant via CRED Pay payment using RuPay credit cards. Card OTP page is not open but other merchants like Swiggy, Jiomart etc via CRED Pay payment using RuPay credit cards working perfectly.

When i complaint to Intermiles team, they took 45 days and then Intermiles customer support told me, we investigate this matter with our tech team and find out our Razorpay gateway's acquirer bank is not support RuPay credit cards.

I told them, then why other merchants accept RuPay credit cards via CRED Pay and they also use Razorpay payment gateway.

Intermiles support told me, Sir payment gateway maybe same but our partner acquirer bank is different and our (Intermiles) partner bank is not accept RuPay credit cards.

Sir, We (Intermiles) will change our partnering bank to start accepting RuPay credit cards, it will take 10 to 15 working days.

That's what they told me.

I am understanding the issue to some extent. So the main issue is of few acquirer banks not accepting Rupay Cards. So what is the reason for those banks not to accept Rupay Cards? Can we write to RBI regarding this issue? It should be easier for RBI to mandate all banks to accept Rupay cards.

And why my CITI VISA CC was not working just like BoB Rupay CC?

Hi @Abhishek012 ,

Any updates received regarding the Loungekey registration issue of Union Bank of India JCB Rupay Platinum Debit Card?

And why my CITI VISA CC was not working just like BoB Rupay CC?
I think acquirer banks also accept RuPay cards but they are not added some newly issue RuPay cards.

For example - BOB RuPay CC is new card and BIN number start with - 3561 series.

You can also complaint to RuPay customer support here - https://twitter.com/RuPay_npci and Razorpay both.

and why your CITI VISA CC was not working ?

Answer is same reason.

In fact, Amazon is not accept BOB RuPay CC for EMI transactions but Flipkart accept BOB RuPay CC for EMI transactions

Reason ? Amazon's partner acquirer bank is not enabled BOB RuPay CC for EMI transactions

Here you will see RuPay 3D secure gateway "BEPG" feature - for EMI transactions, acquirer bank needs to enabled EMI feature from there side -

Received this debit card. But unable to register in Loungekey. Any solution

Hi @Abhishek012 ,

Any updates received regarding the Loungekey registration issue of Union Bank of India JCB Rupay Platinum Debit Card?
Yedsterday i already told -

I receive a reply from RuPay customer support about my loungekey service query.

First they told me to share this details -

"Hi Abhishek, please share the details in the below format.
Name:
Number:
Email ID:
Bank Name:
Card Name:
Branch:

Please share the details in the below format to resolve your query related to lounge key services. Thank you for your kind understanding."

I told them My loungekey service query is not about any specific banks, My question about all RuPay/JCB Platinum debit cards variant and all RuPay/JCB Platinum debit card issuing banks are eligible for loungekey services ?

Because not only SBI and Union bank but many other banks issuing RuPay/JCB Platinum debit card.

For example - TJSB bank, City union bank etc

I need a clear answer this RuPay/JCB Platinum debit card is provide Loungekey for International lounge services or not ?

Then i receive this reply -

"Hi Abhishek, please be informed that your respective bank has to enable the lounge key services from their end. Request you to get in touch with them for further assistance. Thank you."

You can also contact RuPay customer support on twitter, they maybe ask you to share all the details like name, number, mail id, bank/card name etc - https://twitter.com/RuPay_npci

Yea, just now I received the same reply from Rupay.

Again contacting Union Bank of India customer care is good for nothing. They don't know anything about these features. I wonder whether they ever heard about JCB, Loungekey etc.

Yes, infact i also contact LoungeKey customer support, they also said the same thing "bank has to enable the lounge key services from their end".
