Amex Annual Fees Waived Thread

Hi

I asked Amex for Annual fee waiver of gold charge card.

Amex gave me below options

1. 12000 reward points if I decide to pay Annual fees
2. 50% discount on Annual fees
3. 100% reversal of Annual fees if I spend 60k in 3 months.

I am thinking to opt for 12000 reward points as I shifted all my spends to Axis Magnus and Vistara infinite. Don't want to do any manufactured spends.

I don't remember but someone said that, on request Amex gave 20k reward points instead of 12k to someone. is there any trick to convince for 20k points?

TIA

Plat Reserve Retention offered :

1. Taj 15K voucher upon paying annual fee
Or
2. Spend based waiver by doing 90K in 90Days

(Card history : 12months & 75K spends only. Was denied request to convert this into a companion card)

I got a 75% fee waiver on my AMEX MRCC.

I didn't ask them to cancel the card or anything. I just called them up and said the fees is too high and if there is any reversal I can get for the fees. The retention team guy explained to me why MRCC fees are negligible compared to the benifits etc and why ist important for amex to charge fees. I then said that I understood all that but would still like to get a reversal on the fees and if there was anything he could do. So he said he would check my profile and then after a minute said he could get me 75% reversal on the fees that would be charged on the December bill.

I accepted it as I use my MRCC a lot and have no plans to cancel it anyway. I would have kept it even if I had to pay 1500+GST as it would still be worth it to me so a 75% off seemed really good to me.

My last year's spending on this card was around 95k.

If you spent 95K on it, your renewal fees is actually 750+GST. So you got 75% off on 750 or on 1500?

I asked about this specifically, and the person said they can't see manual spends on my card but said whatever the bill is the 75% will be on that.
he said if Bill is Rs 1500 + GST they would apply a waiver of Rs 1125 + GST and if Bill is Rs 750 + GST then they would apply a waiver of Rs 562.5 + GST.

Btw for people with this card for a long time, do we get the 50% waiver on fees even on referred cards with 1500 + GST annual fees? or is this discount only for people paying full fees of 4500+ GST?

Today I was negotiating for annual waiver fee for plat travel as they already send statement. At first they kept rejecting and when I said after this year I may think of alternative they immediately said to hold on and said best review as exception 50% waiver with all benefits of card intact. I agreed for 2500 plus tax better than nothing.but was unsuccessful in negotiating plat chg with MR points instead of Taj voucher. They kept saying not possible cards T&C now stopped giving MR points until we recive offer from them it is only Taj vouchers.

My Amex Plat Travel fees is due next month. Called them for waiver. They gave me 2 options:

1) 50% waiver
2) Full waiver if 2.5 lakh+ spent in 60 days

Wanted to check if people are getting better offer else I will take 50% waiver. Offer 2 doesn't make any sense.

2.5lakh+ in 60 days i will rather do on Magnus Burgundy card! Doesn’t make sense for me.. is it possible to get 15k points for getting 5.9k fees?
Ask them to debit 10k for full fees waiver and then buy 10k points at 4000 Rs
Or take 50% waiver and pay 2960
Spending 2.5 within 2 months doens't make sense

Where exactly is this option of buying 10k points at @4k. Thanks
Chat support
Just tell them you want to buy 10k MR
Condition is you can buy Max 10k in a calendar year per card
You should have atleast 10k balance in your membership account
Amex sells MR points at a rate of 400 Rs per 1000 MR
This option is already closed in other countries , so till it the time it's available in India this is the cheapest way to buy MR

Thanks for your inputs.. unfortunately don’t have 10k MR points as transferred all points to Marriott in ongoing 30% bonus.. if some good people use my referral in that case i might have 10k MR to get another 10k MR for 4k rs..
anyways will chk with amex on debit of points vs fees and credit of points vs fees..
Thanks for your suggestion

This is actually a better option..
Why did you transfer the points to Marriott points.. these kind of offers will come at some point of time. If you keep the points in Amex they will never expire

the 2.5l spent in the 60 days will it be counted for next years 4L milestone
