This is normal thing to check any LTF offer against your card in SBI.

SBI might have found you Overleveraged and non-eligible for Cashback card if you have applied for it today, so they would have found your card eligible for auto closure lol. (Pun intended)

It's not about card closure request. They exceptionally check whether the LTF offer is there or not

Closure is a precursor for LTF conversion , if the offer is available on the card..
If LTF offer is not availble then there is a chance the card will be closed..
So , it is a double edged sword.. so play with it carefully... thru proper channel..
