Axis Bank Abruptly Stops Issuing Airtel Credit Cards: A Bizarre Experience

I recently considered upgrading my Axis Bank Indian Oil card to an Airtel card. I contacted customer care, and they informed me that the upgrade process wasn't possible through their channel. Instead, they advised me to email the bank to initiate the upgrade.

I sent an email to the Nodal Officer on January 5th, requesting the upgrade. However, the Nodal Officer rejected my request the very next day, on January 6th. I immediately escalated the matter to the Principal Nodal Officer (PNO), reiterating my request.

Today, I finally received a response from the PNO, stating, "We have stopped issuing Airtel cards further." I'm shocked and confused. Has Axis Bank indeed discontinued issuing Airtel cards? Has anyone recently applied for or received an Airtel card from Axis Bank?

The bank's customer care and Nodal Desk seem to be providing conflicting information. The PNO's statement has left me wondering if this is a legitimate decision or just a convenient excuse. Does this matter warrant a complaint to the RBI?

Just 3 days ago, I got it preapproved from Axis Open app and delivered yesterday.
Me Got as 3rd Axis Card on 15th Dec 24 😁

I just applied via app and it was approved in a few hours
They approved my Airtel card!

and delivered the card in just a week.
Mine approved on 2nd january, delivered this week. I applied through axis mobile app
I too got this card on 1 Jan and delivered on 5 Jan. Applied through Axis app.
After seeing so many people easily get Airtel cards...

Le Me: Why you hating on me?😓

What a coincidence!!!
I already have 3 cards .Just today evening i raised a request through LIVE CHAT to flip my card from INDIANOIL LTF to AIRTEL.
They asked me to apply through AIRTEL app only and denied flip/swap
I have asked them to CLOSE my Indianoil card. They did it immediately and the CARD just disappeared😛 from the app as informed by them to stop further transactions

Should i retain this INDIANOIL LTF(any gains on holding it) or let it GO?
If ur IOCL card was closed, what's the point of asking if u can retain, is there any other way to revive the closed card?

I actually applied from Cashkaro once today, and I got a message stating that the card is rejected. Later realised that in cashkaro application, if I already own a Axis cc, cashback will not be credited.

Then I went to apply now section within Axis app, and when I applied, boom it was approved in an hour and it is visible in app. Why would they reject it first time and then approve it the next time? All within 2 hours. And then I see this post. Axis is next level.

Damn it was unbelievable, I was trying for this card since last 1 year and they either used to say Sorry no offer available to you or application rejected due to internal reasons. Recently I applied after closing Myzone card as I had 3 axis cards and customer care clearly said Airtel card can't be given through card upgrade, it needs to be applied separately through app or website. But again it was rejected, I had almost lost all the hopes, then after reading some comment suddenly, I thought to check in app and apply through it( Note: In axis app, earlier I was getting pre approved offers of magnus, atlas and all other axis cards but never seen Airtel card in the option). Now suddenly saw Airtel was also showing in the app and just after few clicks it got approved just in few secs, totally surprised to see this, even card is visible in the app. Axis is unbelievable.
