Axis Bank Abruptly Stops Issuing Airtel Credit Cards: A Bizarre Experience

I recently considered upgrading my Axis Bank Indian Oil card to an Airtel card. I contacted customer care, and they informed me that the upgrade process wasn't possible through their channel. Instead, they advised me to email the bank to initiate the upgrade.

I sent an email to the Nodal Officer on January 5th, requesting the upgrade. However, the Nodal Officer rejected my request the very next day, on January 6th. I immediately escalated the matter to the Principal Nodal Officer (PNO), reiterating my request.

Today, I finally received a response from the PNO, stating, "We have stopped issuing Airtel cards further." I'm shocked and confused. Has Axis Bank indeed discontinued issuing Airtel cards? Has anyone recently applied for or received an Airtel card from Axis Bank?

The bank's customer care and Nodal Desk seem to be providing conflicting information. The PNO's statement has left me wondering if this is a legitimate decision or just a convenient excuse. Does this matter warrant a complaint to the RBI?

Applied on 31st, approved immediately. No CIBIL enquiry. I had Neo LTF. They charged 500+90. Made transaction in first week. Got amazon 500 voucher.
I got neo recently (nov), when I tried to apply for this coard in thanks app it says no offers available. In axis app it says you have a existing Axis cc so no offers🙁.
Any other way or there is a wait time to apply for another card after having one?

Noob question: If the cashback is incorrectly calculated, where do we email to get them to correctly credit it? Do they actually care or reply or hide behind template replies or do nothing?

Simply close your indian oil card and once it gets closed and you receive update then just apply for the airtel card through normal process like other cards if you have good relation with axis then they will do the vkyc and in next few days you will get your card approved. This is my personal experience i got by closing my my zone card in december. The customer support team also told that u can't get 3 cashback cards as i already have Flipkart and ace card but still i applied for this card and got the approval. So don't believe on them just apply bro.

Max 3 cards are allowed for normal users. More than 3 for AXIS employee only.

I'm given to understand that Airtel Cards are now issued by Bajaj Finserv now. Also they call it as EMI cards rather than credit cards.

Afaik Axis card upgrades are possible in same reward structure like cashback 2 cashback, edge rewards to edge rewards. I think that's why they are not upgrading.
That's not true... I upgraded from Axis Flipkart to Axis Atlas. I was also eligible for Reserve, Select, Privilege, Magnus, Samsung Infinite.
