Axis Bank Introduces Mobile OTP – A Game Changer for Secure Banking!

🚀 Axis Bank is rolling out a new security feature – Mobile OTP! 🚀

If you use Axis Internet Banking, you know how important OTPs are for login and transactions. Until now, these OTPs were sent via SMS, but Axis Bank is now introducing Mobile OTP via the Axis Mobile App for a more secure and seamless experience.

What is Axis Mobile OTP?

Axis Mobile OTP allows users to generate OTPs directly from the Axis Mobile Banking App, eliminating the need to wait for SMS-based OTPs. This is useful when you have network issues or delays in receiving OTP messages.

SBI SECURE OTP App

When once you install n activate it on your mobile - AND - allow it in your INB (NetBanking) - no OTP is generated by the bank till you cancel this arrangement.

So, it is safer. Even some fraudster had cloned your SIM or installed
some spoofing software on your phone, since there is OTP coming via SMS, he can't see n do anything. To that extent, it is a safer option.

That's a really useful feature, especially for people who travel frequently! ✈️ Avoiding SMS OTP issues while abroad is a big plus. Also, the added security against SIM cloning and spoofing makes it even better. Just curious—does the SBI Secure OTP app work smoothly on multiple devices, or is it locked to a single phone once activated?

I/we did not try on multiple devices.

We have multiple accounts (and related 3 logins). We have 3 devices with 3 dedicated SIMs - each linked to one login credentials. We carry all 3 phones at all times.

So, did not try it. My hunch is that it will not work on multiple devices at a time. Because, like any other banking app, it is also linked to the SIM+device combo. And, you can't have the same combo on two or more devices.

Is it possible to switch back to SMS if there's any issue with the app based OTP without visiting branch?

I don't think you got my question. If for some reason I am not able to generate the app based OTP, will I be able to loginin to INB to change the mode to SMS.

I have to deal with the hypothetical because the account belongs to my mother and I can't take her to a branch for changes.

Please READ MY REPLIES AGAIN.

User can change the option - via INB and via the mobile App.

Why don't you try ?

I don't like this move at all. Apps reside within our phone ecosystem and can be hacked much more easily compared to the sms that will require hacking the telecom which must be impossible given it might become a national threat to defense

I am okay if they allow 3rd party apps to generate the OTP like authenticator apps but not their own app

[bold] It just looks like a pure cost cut measure to me from axis as always they trying to lower the user benefit (security in this case)[/bold]

Hope no other bank follows this and RBI makes it mandatory to adhere to sms verification which is such a good security feature only available in India
Totally agree with you!

But I think it's beneficial for the users with connectivity issues like BSNL's network in our Locality.

Please remember that

No product is perfect for all.
Because, use cases are not exactly the same. Connectivity, timing, devices n a lot of other parameters decide the efficacy (or otherwise) of any App or any financial product.

If not, we certainly would NOT have so many banks, eaxh with so many products.

So, read, try n live with those products which suits you best.
