Best card for offline spends

Akash.nagori

TF Premier
Hi everyone one of my friend he wants a credit card which provides maximum return for offline spends … he is planning to buy electronics worth 1.5 to 2 lakhs in upcoming months and he wants direct cash back he doesn’t want all that hassle of converting reward points and all that… he earns 1.5 lakh per month and he doesn’t have any other card and he holds a salary account with icici bank so experts please share your valuable feedback and suggestions

If you ask me now, HSBC Liv+ CC

10% cashback on grocery and dining
1.5% cb on all other spends except utility

Your friend seems like a credit card noob rather than a nerd. I do not mean that as an insult because different people have different interests in life and are experts in different areas.

I have a similar friend and I got them Axis Ace simply for the same reason - they don't want the reward points redemption headaches, they don't want to buy discounted vouchers online to be used for payments and they don't want to think which credit card to use from the 3 they have with them. They do utilities for themselves and their family back home and they are not an Airtel Fiber or Postpaid or even DTH subscriber. They have just one Airtel SIM in the family. They are a frequent Swiggy user and occasionally use Ola as well. GPay was always their default UPI app. The 1.5% flat and unlimited CB of Axis Ace on most online and offline spends (with the usual exclusions of rent, education, Government etc) is almost unbeatable. Their credit card expenses rarely exceed Rs 15k a month and they barely manage to max out the 5% CB for utility via GPay, 4% CB for Swiggy/Zomato and OLA which has a cap of Rs 500 pm. Despite the annual fee of Rs 500 + GST, the card will save them enough. There was a GPay joining bonus of Rs 500; so the card has been FYF sort of. You also don't need to chase an RM or threaten them to get the card which seems to be a trend on TF. If it shows up on GPay you just apply and get it mostly.

that also sounds good. is it free first year?
Yes Neon is being offered FYF to new Kiwi users getting onboarded to their Yes Bank CC (called Klick CC) but they have major issues currently with video KYC which should be temporary.

For existing Kiwi users with Axis "Kwik" CC, Neon is not yet offered.

Did this come out wrong??
Chase, yes. Negotiate, absolutely yes.
But am sure no one tried to 'threaten any agent to get a new credit card'.
People do 'threaten to close the card' but we all knew this even before technofino existed. Back in 2016-17, Sbi called my bluff and just closed my simplysave cc 😁. Lesson learnt.

@dexter_greycells
why not sbi cashback or hdfc millenia or hdfc swiggy?
a) The flat online/offline cashback rate is 1% for those cards v/s 1.5% for Ace. The OP was clear that his friend will spend off-line irrespective of higher discounts online.
b) None of them offer direct cashback on utility payments / recharges. HDFC Swiggy is a dud in this case and for SBI CB and HDFC Millennia you would need to buy APay vouchers, load them in your APay and then pay via APay. A lot of people hate that extra step despite the clear savings.
c) SBI CB and HDFC Millennia have annual fees of Rs 1000 v/s 500 for Ace though Swiggy matches that.

SBI CB and HDFC Millennia are certainly TF favourites for good reasons but not every CC user has the motivation of a TF user. Some just want simplicity with decent returns instead of complexity with much higher returns. I think of Ace as a Swiss knife and SBI CB and HDFC Millennia / Swiggy as specialists.

As someone who has been using Mozilla Firefox since the last 20 years at home and work and on mobile, I can't help but see you in a good light. A tip of the hat, my friend :geek:

By 'threaten' I didn't mean physically. I meant it in a business sense. Yes - closing the existing card is one type of threat. There are others like closing the savings account, moving all the investments to another bank, breaking multi-lakh rupee FDs, trying to find branch / circle managers and sending escalation emails, wanting to speak to the next level and what not. You might call this bargaining. I see it as threatening. Some people just can't take "No" for an answer especially when some stranger on TF was given a "Yes" ;)

😁 I have been stubbornly using Firefox everywhere I can (since early 2005 I think), while the world moved from IE6 to IE7 to Chrome.

They meant to highlight the firefox logo as my profile DP.

Those firefox vs. opera browser wars .. wow what a time it was.
I had a siggy,

"Browsing is all about transferring 1s and 0s , F1ref0x makes is faster and safe."
Of course foxkeh was my avatar.
I too was a fan of Opera in the slow dial-up times. then moved to Firefox when the internet speed became better with 3G connections. Those were days when we used to try all types of browsers to see which one loads pages faster with cold and hot loading conditions.

Activate 5+1% bonus cashback and 10x reward points (2% return) for offline transactions on AU Lit card.
Activate Apparel for 5% cashback if shopping for clothes and accessories
So 13% return on offline spends

Earlier electronics category was there for extra 5% cashback, but that was removed recently
great advice...will follow it

If one can sell off vouchers then for such high offline spends Kotak Pvr Inox and StanC Ultimate make very good sense.
