Could a person get a credit card in my name w/o my knowledge using my documents?

Are you a boomer? (Born after 1946 and before 1964) Genuinely asking.
the no of people born after 2003-04 who are not able to operate a laptop, don't understand the difference b/w email id based login and gmail based login and who don't even understand that ad-blockers are a thing and blocking ads on all their fav apps is possible quite easily is very high. And these guys roam the world thinking they know everything. Boomers at least in India are pretty scared of technology and that's a good thing in my book.

ok... but do you think any bank will give them loans just with my photo, aadhar, pan and cc photos?

you forgot one important thing here, they won't apply loans or cards from known top 5 banks in India. There are so many co-operative, small banks exist with less regulation let alone money hungry apps in playstore.

anycase, you may not see the impact immediately but there is a risk.

- lock aadhar biometric and allow only when you need it.
- careful with SMS or email and check if anything goes without you.
- keep an eye on CIBIL and if any out of changes report immediately.

Best case, you may have applied through agent who may process your request.

I don't want to spoil your sleep, but you do not have to worry - just prepare yourself and make sure it won't repeat again.

I knew a guy who used to work on finance. He once told one of his clients complaint that there is a personal loan of 150k and a consumer loan of 55 thousand issued in his name but personally he never took both loans. He once gave his PAN and Adhar details to a financing company and from there someone took loan in his name. Scary time if anyone has your PAN and ADAHR today, anything could be possible

wow... sounds like something that they will be able to pull off without much difficulty. nevertheless, will take every possible measure to see to it that that doesn't happen and will not be held liable even if that happens.

now there is a very real possibility of a similar thing happening with me.

Yesterday, I clicked on a PNB Credit Card ad on Instagram and provided my contact details through the form that opened. The very next day, i.e., this morning, a person called me from a private number and told me that he was from PNB and that he was calling in connection with a recent PNB CC application of mine. He said that I would need to provide details of my Aadhar and PAN to complete my CC application. I believed him thinking that if he wasn’t from the bank there was no way he would know that I had recently applied. So I agreed to provide the details. Next, he said I would receive an SMS containing a link from the bank to do VKYC. I got the message but it was again from a private number. I didnt think much about it at the time because I wanted to complete it as soon as possible and get back to the work I was doing. So, I opened the link and we got on a Google Meet conference during which he asked me share my phone’s screen and take photos of myself, my aadhar and PAN card using my phone’s camera app. He also asked me to take a picture of one of my existing CCs to increase the chances of approval. I did that too.

It was only well after we had gotten off the google meet conference that it dawned on me that I might have been scammed. In all of the VKYCs that I have done so far, except for this one, I could see the bank rep’s faces. Moreover, I havent received any communication from PNB regarding my application even after many hours have passed.

So, what I'm thinking now is that the scammer could use my documents to apply for a PNB credit card, using his own phone number and have it delivered to his address. I wouldn't be aware of it, and so, wouldn’t act to block it. He would use the card until it reaches its limit and then discard it without paying the bill.

My question to you all is, if the guy was indeed a scammer, is there a real possibility of him getting a card issued to him using my documents? Why would PNB share a potential customer’s number with a person who isnt an employee? I had never applied for a PNB CC before and so I had never received a call from anyone before claiming to be a rep from PNB. If not from the bank where else would he get my number from?

UPDATE: I found out from the internet that Instagram maintains a record of the ads that a particular user have interacted with, and this record can be accessed through the app's settings. I checked that record and now that ad is gone from that list. All other ads I have ever clicked on, right from the first time I used Instagram, are there along with the dates.
Bhai, let me tell you what happened to you. You filled out a form that asked for your name and number, no biggie. But then you shouldn't have completed it or even allowed camera access, thinking it was for VKYC. How naive can you be, really? Do Indian Bank VKYCs send Google Meet or Zoom invitations? It's like taking candy from a baby. Why would you continue with VKYC, and why did you share your credit card information? I hope you only shared the 16-digit number and not the CVV. Now, for the second question: the scammer will likely try to apply for a credit card, but probably fail to get one sent to his address. Even if he somehow manages to use some AI to make it seem like you completed VKYC, he won't get a credit card sent to his address. He will definitely try to use your credit card. So, block your credit card right away. If you've already shared anySS, then tag me through Meta Ads because Meta (Facebook & Instagram Ads are managed and run) so through the Ads Library, I will try to see if there are any inactive ads. It's a very slim chance, but I'll share with you the handle of his Instagram account from which he ran ads, and then you can take legal action through the police.

I didn't share the CVV. He didn't ask me to tell him the CVV or show the CVV, which was on the back side of the card, but he was not satisfied with just a view of the front side and kept asking me to give him a "full view" of the card. I told him what I was showing him was full enough. He said "ok" and continued with the remainder of the "vkyc" process.

Even if doesnt get a credit card, I think he will try to obtain loans from banks with more lenient regulations.

As for screenshots, I don't have any.

You're mistaken. Facebook blocks some ads within 24-48 hours, not all. In Google Ads, it's very common for 10+ ads to keep running even if you reported them earlier.
ok.. thank you so much bhai. I will never trust any ad claiming to be from a reputable company even on a reputable platform just by the looks of it ever again. Will thoroughly verify its authenticity before engaging with it.

All you need to do is to check the URL it redirects to. Make sure it is authentic and starts with https and not http.
