Hi Folks,

Starting a thread to get your feedback on the acceptance of cards on Diners network in Kochi, Kerala.

I've got an FYF upgrade to DCB Metal and have been calculating the odds of meeting the annual spend criteria of INR 8L.

Please let me know your experience with acceptance of this card. I've been asking this question to many people via comments and have been getting mixed reviews, hence starting a thread to help other fellows as well.

Thanks,
Srikar

Online usage will get you there.. Offline for so much value is difficult anywhere in India for Diners.. Try as much online as you can.

Online (E-comm) wise acceptance is 95% no need to worry. However while shopping offline, comparatively you may see some issues in terms of card acceptance from that of metro cities. In metro cities, there is no much acceptance issues similar to e-comm.

Any first hand experience with offline payments at Kochi? I can see around 65 stores accepting Diners, that are listed on the HDFC site. However I'm curious to know if any store with the Pinelabs/HDFC machine would accept payments.

Diners gets accepted at LuLu Hypermarkets I can confirm, as they have HDFC POS machines. It also gets accepted at posh hotels and restaurants. But as far as common everyday stores I can also confirm that it is accepted absolutely nowhere even within LuLu mall. No luck with most online stores as well.

Take the DCB only if you are going to have heavy purchases on Smartbuy.

I had a Diners Privilege card. Swapped it out for a Regalia Gold card precisely because of the acceptance issue.

This was the kind of response I was looking for. Thanks a lot!

Just a clarification, do you recall facing acceptance issues on pine labs machines as well?

In addition, sites like Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, Flipkart seem to accept Diners (Tested using a dummy check card), could you please list out the sites you'd faced issues with?

Yes I remember it getting declined on a Pine Labs machine, at some supermarket in Kadavanthra. Most cashiers will say "Sir only Indian cards are accepted" as soon as they see the card. They think only VISA and MasterCard (and now Rupay) are issued in India. Same response I get for American Express too.

Yes, all the big guys accept Diners online, but I almost always use gift vouchers for purchases from all large e-comm websites. You can get the vouchers for Smartbuy for all of them. What I meant that Diners is usually never accepted at all those offbeat small e-comm sites and also specific sites like school websites and so on. Earlier it wasn't accepted at LIC as well though I am not sure about now.

I've been using Diners in Thrissur and Kochi over the past three months.

It's worked at most (85%) places that I've been to, but I always keep a backup master card just in case. Large supermarkets, medium sized restaurants, apparel stores, ajfan-style small branded stores, etc. Mom and pop style local stores mostly don't support it.

I'm easily able to hit the milestones using the smartbuy gift vouchers for Amazon, Flipkart, Reliance, Croma, Swiggy, Zomato, BigBasket, etc with 10% back. Moreover, you can load Amazon Pay with 7.5% back and use that wallet for payment at online stores that don't accept Diners straightaway. Amazon Pay also works for KSEB, BSNL landline, mobile service, internet, etc with 7.5% back.

But does Gift voucher purchase is considered as a part of annual spends

That sounds relieving, thank you!

My DCB Metal has been approved, I'll be able to drop my two cents once I get the card.

How easy is it to pay at offline stores using money loaded to Amazon pay wallet (through GV) via QR/UPI?

Never succeeded in finding an option to pay via Amazon pay wallet balance out here. Paytm works seamless though.

Amazon wallet usable for online portals / bill payment. Not offline. Mostly none of the wallets where u can load GV, works for UPI payments.

Close to one month of spends on Diners network.

Acceptance is not bad as portrayed on the internet. Possibly because of the tie-up they have with rupay network. Had just 2 instances of non acceptance and thoss two were some low key stores, can't complain.

Was accepted at around 95% with swipe to pay.

Tap to pay wasn't working at most places though. I find it as a downgrade as don't recall swiping at any store when I was using Regaila.

However I'm happy with the advantages DCB offers over Regaila.

I'll keep updating the list of accepted and non accepted stores for the community's benefit.

Cheers!
