Starting this thread to share and learn ways to repay credit card bill and get little rewards in the process.

Most of the apps give very minimal rewards.
One good way to get rewards is to use debit card to pay CC bill.
HDFC platinum and millenia give 1% cashback,
SBI debit cards give 0.25% cashback
please add if any other debit card gives cashback.

then on mobikwik and paytm, can pay via debit card without any charges. (Note mastercard debit cards won't work though)

1) if bill is beyond 12500, pay 12500 via mobikwik using debit card option. you ll get 50rs cashback on mobikwik and debit card reward points.

2) pay via mobkwik, debit card option and get 2% supercash as rewards, supercash is not that useful though.

3) Paytm using debit card, pay in 1k, 10k, 15k, 20k etc, you get paytm points and debit card points. paytm points are also worth very less

4) Cred, pay 1k every 3 days, play the jackpot, if you have too much time to kill.

5) If one wants zero headache, pay in full in one shot via NEFT, or set up auto pay etc.

Any idea on the failure rate of payment by debit card vs upi through say an app like Cred. Does debit card has higher failure rate? Asking as don’t want hassle of failed transactions for points (which are good but not meaningful enough)

been using debit cards for CC bill payments for quite sometime,
there were cases once in a while where payment fails, i.e no money is deducted from bank, had to retry.

i haven't faced the case where money is deducted from bank but not paid to CC.

notes:-
1) Mastercard debit cards won't work.
2) can't use debit card to pay CC bill on CRED. can use on Paytm on Mobikwik.

  • Axis liberty saving account holder can get ₹750 voucher per calendar quarter on spend of ₹60,000 in calendar quarter. Pay credit card bill via UPI (P2M txn) or NEFT (1.25%)
  • Bajaj Finserv wallet app also runs an offer sometime of ₹150 cashback on min bill payment of ₹10,000 (1.5%)
i didn't understand pay CC bill via UPI. you meant 60k spent on UPI via Axis liberty saving account gives 750rs voucher ?

Debit cards can be used to pay CC on cred above Rs.50000. And Mastercard debit cards work on Cred. No charges also.

Yes but only merchant UPI transactions are valid. Probably loading wallet may be considered as UPI P2M transactions. Then pay bill using wallet.

Amazon Pay Wallet UPI -- <mobile_number>@amazonpay
Paytm Wallet UPI -- <mobile_number>.wallet@paytm

Axis bank and IDFC First bank allow you to pay directly using UPI, that may work also

<your 16-digit card number>.cc@idfcbank [Example: 1234567890123456.cc@idfcbank]
CC.91<Your 10 digit registered mobile number><last 4 digits of your Credit Card>@axisbank [Example: CC.9199875042247269@axisbank]

MobiKwik is the worst platform ever made. They show offers but it suddenly becomes unavailable while doing transaction. Cashback gets credited after months. Supercash is worse than Paytm coins.

Cred is best if you are paying ₹1000. It gives almost 1.5% cashback in three chunks which is still better than HDFC Platinum DC 1% offer. You just have to pay in parts of 1000 after every 3 days to earn more cashback.

If you've higher bill, then go for HDFC Platinum DC without any second thought.

Can you confirm which method has worked for you and how exactly you did?
