Hello everybody, I hope you guys are doing well ! This is my 1st post here so inputs are appreciated, I'll be as informative as possible
On 29th Dec 2024, I received an SMS and mail from HDFC bank regarding Debit Freeze (no kind of debit transactions are allowed) in my savings account. I had opened my savings max account just a month before online so this was scary to me as more than a lakh rupees were stuck in the account. (PS: If you don't receive any intimation via SMS or mail, download ACC statement and find account status as "DR Blocked" for freeze and "Regular" for a normal account)
PART 1- Why my account might have been frozen?
While opening my savings max account I declared my income as 3-5 lakhs and to be upgraded to the next tier of account 'classic' I tried to maintain AMB of >1 lakh but I also needed the money for applying ipos/ stock market in my different account so I used to transfer my money from HDFC in the morning and around 10-11 pm used to transfer back to HDFC so as to maintain AMB. This made my total transactions count to around 25-30 and total credit/debit amount to around 7-8 lakhs and avg tsxn amount was around 40-50k in the given 1 month period. This was fairly the main reason why my account was blocked by the system.
PART 2- What measures did I take to unfreeze?
As 29th was weekend I tried to gather as much as info available on the net best case I found was to visit the branch , On Monday 30th I visited the branch. From what I heard of HDFC employees they should've been arrogant and unhelpful but god had favoured me the RM was one of the nicest bank employee I had interacted with, after enquiring I was sent to RM and he checked and confirmed my acc was EDD blocked by system and there is whole different team which processes unfreeze request. He printed an account unfreeze form (pdf attached below) and told me to fill in the basic details. I filled the form and attached my PAN Aadhar photocopy for KYC and was told to wait 2-3 working days. But on 3rd I downloaded my statement it showed status as DR blocked I went to the bank and RM told me there was an interest credit transaction on 1st Jan due to which my request was rejected. He raised the request again on 3rd without any extra doc and told to wait 2 days. This was on Thurs, Sat I downloaded my statement finally it showed the status as regular and my account was unblocked. I went bank on Monday and thanked my savior RM.
Key takeaways :
-Prevention is better than cure! Keep your volumes of transaction dr/cr in the limit especially if your account is new.
-When you receive freeze intimation confirm it by downloading the statement/ calling cc, Visit the branch asap as there are little to no things you can do on your own.
-Never do any credit transactions intentionally/unintentionally (interest credit was a system transaction which was unintentional in my case).
-Build a rapport with you RM he may have good insights which can help your case.
-Finally Don't panic ! Easier said than done my RM said these kind of EDD blocks are very common nowadays and many banks have integrated such measures.
I'm attaching the mail & SMS ss and also the pdf of EDD account unfreeze form given to me, also this is my 1st thread so suggestions are appreciated!
