HDFC bank deducted the refund amount instead of refunding it! 😲

After browsing Technofino for a few months and even following its founder on X, I finally created my account here just now to share what I have just experienced.

I paid for my Swiggy food order using my HDFC Swiggy credit card today at 8:15 PM. A few items from the order were missing, so, at 9:36 PM, Swiggy's bot chat support refunded me nearly half the amount I had paid.

However, HDFC bank, instead of refunding me, automatically deducted/charged that refund amount to my credit card at 9:53 PM. It happened without any OTP. How is that possible? This amount (which should have been refunded) shows as a new expense in my HDFC credit card statement in the app and MyCards!

How is that even possible?

People who have faced this before please update on what happened to those debit transactions? Did HDFC credited it twice or did it get adjusted during statement generation? Email support is not really understanding the issue, they are not able to understand those debit or what I don't understand. I have escalated it. My original payment and the refund have been settled but the extra debit transaction is still shown in Unsettled transactions. It is also added in my outstanding amount.

The extra debit amount will be removed in few days watch out the unsettled amount (so basically nothing to worry it is automatically taken care by hdfc no email no call is required from user's end)

I have attached several screenshots here. You can see that Swiggy sent me a refund of 114 (original order amount was 239), but HDFC bank instead of refunding it (which I understand and expereinced that it takes a few days) deducted that refund amount. When I got the text SMS and email saying 114 rupees has been deducted, I thought it may be a faulty text and email. But even the HDFC app and MyCards shows the deduction of 114 rupees as you can see in the screenshot.

You can also see that I have no Swiggy food or Instamart order of 114 rupees today.
Same happen to me as well but they correct the statement later the payment they deducted from our card is illegal without OTP they cannot deduct the balance. I blocked the previous card and they delivered another card and now when I go to refund one more of item from ajio they did the same again deduct the same refund amount again this is completely illegal. Without our consent they are deducting our money we never know they will make it a Big fraud later. Stop using Swiggy Card.

It happened with my Millennia credit card for the refund from Ajio, so it's not just happening with Swiggy card. There is something wrong with HDFC and the integration with these specific merchants.
HDFC customer care is not acknowledging these transactions, they keep on saying that 'refund is credited and no debits are made in your account', even if we email them screenshots and transaction ref numbers. Either they're trying to be unaccountable or there is something wrong in the system that they are not able to see such transactions happening.
