I dont fully agree with what you've stated. People only complaint abour Flipkart. But jiomart which also sells wide range of products gives the right MCC when ordered groceries from it. I've also ordered dmart and the MCC was inline for the 10% cashback. Same goes with other near supermarket like Vijetha, etc. All the MCCs were aligned properly. I repeat it again that bank doesn't have the luxury to select whatever MCC they want. Its already predefined.Defined sure by Visa/MC/RuPay. Assigned to the merchant by the acquirer (whichever financial institution accepts payment from the card network).
A merchant like Flipkart sells a gazillion things. On grocery, often the wrong MCC comes in payment gateway so no CB on HSBC Cashback, nothing we can do about it. 🙂 Complaining to Flipkart is futile. But a card like Axis FK which has covered all the MCCs used by FK will give rewards. Similarly you said HSBC Cashback will give CB on all online delivery - that's only in theory. Which are these "all" besides Swiggy & Zomato where HSBC CB is giving CB on food delivery? These 2 practically have a duopoly on the market. It didn't on the 3rd distant food delivery app, MagicPin because again wrong MCC.
A card that is cobranded with a specific merchant e.g Swiggy card, Zomato card, Amazon card, Flipkart card, Neu card covers the wide range of MCCs from that merchant, even if it's the wrong MCC e.g. books for grocery or clothes for electronics. Whereas a card that determines rewards by MCC, not all the MCCs used by a specific merchant is a hit or miss. That's the only point I am making.
Where was this mentioned?Card aa gya, any idea how to get free hotel stay with hdfc swiigy CC?
🤦🏻♂️Which bank are you talking about - there are 2 banks involved here. The merchant's bank (the acquirer) and the bank whose card the customer is using. The acquirer decides the MCC as guided by Visa/MC guidelines/categories defined in docs published by them. Visa/MC don't directly deal with the merchant 😆I dont fully agree with what you've stated. @helloworld can you pls chip here? One of us are not getting this properly.
To your second point, if you go with cobranded cards, you are locked/ restricted to spends on those particular merchants only.
The widely popular sbi cashback card also determines cashaback exclusions based on MCCs only

Its always a hassle to get all the cobranded cards given their fee as well. I prefer less cards with multiple MCCs acceptance. Anyways, for me HSBC is providing the right MCC for all the spending i do under groceries, food delivery and dinning. So, I'm very much good with 10% cashaback offered.🤦🏻♂️Which bank are you talking about - there are 2 banks involved here. Yes cobranded cards limit us to that specific merchant only but once we "collect them all" we always get cashback on all MCCs of that merchant. That doesn't mean I am against taking cards that give rewards purely by MCC set, I myself have some of these cards. If used the right way (and MCC is known in advance, those can be rewarding too, just that they're hit or miss). Which is why for such cards, you will always find threads discussing whether a particular MCC is giving cashback or not. Even hybrid cobranded cards like the Swiggy card which is hit or miss for other merchants besides Swiggy. Now 5% or 10% is a pretty big cashback to miss out on, or finding out after doing the txn that the MCC was some non-eligible one.
From my point of view, cobranded cards are given away LTF quite easily - I got APay ICICI (Amazon Fresh), Neu Infinity (BigBasket), RBL SaveMax (10% Zomato), HDFC Swiggy all LTF, Axis FK also offered. For Dmart, there's OneCard with huge offline discounts (20% on Dmart, Reliance Smart, McDonalds etc is good). But HSBC doesn't give to self-employed unless they have a 1.5L MAB saving account with them plus a hefty 40L-50L ITR so it's out of the equation. For salaried, eligibility criteria is not so abnormal. They should rename their cards to "HSBC Salaried Cashback card", "HSBC Salaried Platinum Card" and so on. 🤣And then after becoming an HNI customer with them, if I get a card that's hit or miss with 10% CB, I won't be pleased. Its always a hassle to get all the cobranded cards given their fee as well. So, everything boils down to their personal preference. Swiggy card is also very clear eith their MCCs. I just confirmed with their customer care team and they confirmed if the MCC is aligning with their list, you will definitely get the 5% cashback. So, I'm good here as well as i have covered the MCCs which gives cashaback
Ok So new guy here. I did not complete the Card KYC however, after one week it was automatically approved. I thought maybe it was LTF that's why. I got my card and all but now Swiggy app shows it is a paid card. And I remember properly that I applied After 6th may. Any idea what else can be done.
I am thinking of keeping this as My application for SBI cashback card was rejected without stating any reasons also being a customer of SBI for last 15 years. But I want this card as LTF.

LTF offer is for selected Swiggy customers ONLY even today. (6th May date is irrelevant in your case). Only Eligible people see LTF banner in their app, for everyone else it's a paid card.Ok So new guy here. I did not complete the Card KYC however, after one week it was automatically approved. Swiggy screwing their customers for LTF is like SBI screwing their Customers for Cashback Card.LTF offer is for selected Swiggy customers ONLY even today. (6th May date is irrelevant in your case). Only Eligible people see LTF banner in their app, for everyone else it's a paid card.
If it wasn't showing LTF in your app, then the card is definitely paid for you.
