Revaluation HDFC Bank Swiggy credit card cashback will be credited to the card statement instead of Swiggy Money, effective 21st June, 2024.

summary

TF Buzz
Starting from 21st June, any cashback earned will now be adjusted against the credit card statement, rather than appearing as Swiggy money on Swiggy. Such a wonderful upgrade by HDFC in this devaluation season.

Hsbc gives for all restaurants and food deliveries. But they should be mapped to their right MCCs

Yes bro I know but that's the problem. Last time I checked for food delivery, MagicPin MCC was 5621 which is some Women's Apparel Stores category so they are using wrong MCC so that's why on MCC-based CCs, it's hard to get rewards reliably. If tied to a specific merchant e.g. Swiggy card, Zomato card, Neu Card (for Neu food delivery), rewards are more reliable and consistent. Btw do let me know if there are other food delivery apps where we get some decent rewards *reliably*.

Even on the HDFC Swiggy card, it was initially a problem as various merchant names, MCCs came up depending on payment gateway but HDFC covered all of them after complaints. Same with RBL Zomato card.

If merchant uses incorrect MCC, then there's nothing bank can do. We need to raise this with the merchant itself to correct the MCC

MCC is assigned by the acquiring bank. If the merchant is into selling multiple diversified goods/services, this wrong MCC problem happens even more, so acquiring bank needs to correct it. But you made my point - we can't do anything and so we lose out on the rewards. Better to get a card that isn't so MCC-specific but one which gives rewards on all/multiple MCCs assigned to a merchant.

First point, i dont think the bank assigns the MCC. MCC are defined by the network provider like VISA, Mastercard, etc based on how the merchant registers his business. There is nothing a bank can do here. It just lets us know the MCC which was assigned to the payment. Second point, category based spend rewards are always based on MCCs as that's how a bank can determine which category your spends belong to.

Anyone experts can please correct if my assumptions are wrong.

Defined sure by Visa/MC/RuPay. Assigned to the merchant by the acquirer (whichever financial institution accepts payment from the card network).

A merchant like Flipkart sells a gazillion things. On grocery, often the wrong MCC comes in payment gateway so no CB on HSBC Cashback, nothing we can do about it. 🙂 Complaining to Flipkart is futile. But a card like Axis FK which has covered all the MCCs used by FK will give rewards. Similarly you said HSBC Cashback will give CB on all online delivery - that's only in theory. Which are these "all" besides Swiggy & Zomato where HSBC CB is giving CB on food delivery? These 2 practically have a duopoly on the market. It didn't on the 3rd distant food delivery app, MagicPin because again wrong MCC.

A card that is cobranded with a specific merchant e.g Swiggy card, Zomato card, Amazon card, Flipkart card, Neu card covers the wide range of MCCs from that merchant, even if it's the wrong MCC e.g. books for grocery or clothes for electronics. Whereas a card that determines rewards by MCC, not all the MCCs used by a specific merchant is a hit or miss. That's the only point I am making.
