Health Insurance for Retinitis Pigmentosa as PED

I have care supreme. Dad has care heart.

No claims experience so far.

We did need to contact customer care for dad's free health checkup. WhatsApp and call support was pathetic. Twitter and email support was decent.
Always use Care app for anything and everything.
Much faster resolutions.

HDFC branch person asking me not to declare it as a PRD right now and telling that we can update it after 6 months

Companies have no issues approving policies for people who will most definitely make a claim, like diabetes, heart condition, smoker, etc
But according to them, I am a risky individual, despite having made no claim in past 2 years

I just don't understand how amI so much more risky ?

They had no issues approving Life Insurance
It feels that they saying to me, you are allowed to die but not allowed to live safely ?

I would suggest not to take that risk. As i said previously, HDFC rejects a lot of policies. I guess their claim settlement ratio is as good as it is because they only provide policies to low risk individuals

Tough pill to swallow. Insurance companies try to keep their distance from untreatable conditions (morally not correct, but it is what it is)

Don't give up. Keep trying different insurers. Something might click.

Update :

Applied for HDFC ERGO Optima Secure through branch agent yesterday. Declared the PED and shared medical reports from doctor. No diagnosis letter though.

Today received the rejection mail.

Any way to appeal to them to reconsider ?
Either through loading charges or exclusion or anything ?
Since my PED doesn't require any claims.

How shall I proceed ahead ?

Sorry to say that HDFC will most likely reject your application. I had retinal detachment (less serious than RP), but my application was rejected in 2024. I then proceeded with care health insurance.

As I said previously, kindly move on from HDFC

Hello

I am looking to get a health insurance for myself. I am 26 (27 next month) years of age..
I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic eye disorder in 2023. No hospitalization, treatment or medications ongoing. No foreseeable claim requirement for this.

I have shortlisted a couple plans :
1. HDFC ERGO Optima Secure
2. Niva Bupa Aspire Platinum+
3. Aditya Birla Activ One

Can my condition result in rejection of my proposal ?
If approved, What additional exclusions, charges or restrictions I can expect ?
If rejected, what are my alternatives ?
I work as an insurance advisor and have done a policy with HDFC for a customer who is also suffering from Retinitis Pigmentosa. The policy was issued with full disclosure and without any additional premium or any other terms and conditions.

You can DM me for more information or if you require any help in policy issuance.

You'll get Care Freedom with permanent exclusion for epilepsy and related claims.

Is that the only option I have?
Sadly yes.
Unless you want to hide the epilepsy and willing to take risk for future claims.

I have given policy to both kind of clients.

In Case 1, client is 30+yrs old, had 1 episode of epileps toy way back at the age of 4/5. He didn't want to disclose. So went ahead and got normal plan Care Supreme.

In Case 2, client is 60yrs old, had 2-3 episodes in last decade. Currently not on any medicine. He didn't want to take any risks. So disclosed about it. Got Care Freedom with permanent exclusion for epilepsy and related claims.

When you mean related what all does it include?
