Help me understand Infinia Points

swipesmart

TF Select
Hi,

I was looking smartbuy which gives 16.5% as reward points considering 5X vouchers. But this 16.5% is not actually 16.5% monetary value right unless used at Tanishq or Apple right ?

Because other good option is to transfer miles and Accorr was most rewarding but now with Accorr it's 1 RP points = 0.5 Accor points.

I do agree that we have other airlines/hotel partner where it's still 1:1.

Can someone help me or I'm missing something

You can also use your points on flights and hotels in smartbuy @ Re. 1 / pt

But you'd miss out on rewards

so effectively 1 point value is 6/7 = 86p

So effective reward rate is 1/7 = 14.3%
Not correct. Each point is redeemed at Rs 1 per point when booking a flight or hotel. There is no loss in value.

Simply book any flight or hotel on Smartbuy and use it at Rs 1 per point. 100% value.

I'm not saying loss in value as such.. but effective reward rate considering you'd get those many RPs if not for redemption of points

Although if it comes to comparison, you neednot get this value back with some alternative way of purchasing flight tickets/ hotel vouchers. So value extracted from 1 RP is 1 Re. itself but effective reward rate considering you could have spent a bit lesser on that spend is 0.86p.

We get 16.67% points on 5X category == 1/6

Let's say value of 1 point is x
We lose out on advantage of 1/6 points when redeeming 1 point
x = 1 - (1/6)x => x = 6/7 = 85.71%
reward rate = (1/6) × (6/7) = 1/7 = 14.29%
Are you sure it's not
x = 1 - (1/6)x = 83.33% or 83.33 paisa?

True, Infinia points are devalued a lot in last 2 years.

Very few airmiles options at 1:1 transfer. All other options like Flight, Hotel, Apple, Tanishq require 30% payment from card. I find it very difficult to redeem them these days.

I would be happier if they do some devaluation in earning rate and bring back 1:1 airmiles transfer and/or 100% redemption on flights.

It's 1 - (1/6)x on RHS right? It being 83.33 means you're aporoximating x to 1 over there which is what we're trying to find right?
This is the exact detailed calculation---
x = 1 - (1/6)x
So x + (x/6) = 1
So 1.1666 x = 1
So x = 1.0000/1.1666
x = 0.8571 or 85.71 paisa (not Rs.1) is the value of each Infinia point.

So the rate of return using Infinia on Smartbuy 5x is
0.8571 x 16.66 = 14.29% , not 16.66%
