I have been receiving lot of dms regarding IOB account opening process and for RSDC.
So putting everything in one thread.

    Account opening process
    1. Open this link
Choose account variant - SAVINGS ACCOUNT - PUBLIC
its mab is very low 100/200 only without chequebook

    2. Fill all ur personal details.
    UnTick debit card
    Untick chequebook
    Tick netbanking and mobile banking

    3. Submit application and do video kyc.

    4. U will receive user id password of netbanking in the mail after account opening usually takes 3 to 1week.

    5. In netbanking, apply rupay select debit card.
    Rupay select dc fee 800JF/800AF

Trick to get RSDC at low price
    Untick dc while opening account.
login into netbanking and apply rupay classic at 150+gst.
After 4 5 days , Use debit card upgrade option in netbanking or app from rupay classic to rupay select.
    Upgrade fee only 350+gst

    Overall 150+350 = 500+gst instead of 800+gst.
    300 saved in joining fee

Overall 800 fee RSDC at 100/200mab is a great choice

    IOB Onboarding New
  • IOB Online Account Opening & Rupay Select Debit Card (RSDC) Journey 🏦💳

I tried opening an IOB account on 25th Aug using the Video KYC link shared by @Ram1 bro,

but ran into an error after entering PAN and Aadhaar: “UNABLE TO PROCESS YOUR REQUEST. KINDLY CONTACT BRANCH.”

So that route was a no-go, at least for me.

Ended up opening a Digital Insta Account (no Video KYC needed) using another link Ram bro gave.

That worked smoothly. Got two emails, One with net banking login + fund transfer Pin and another asking to visit the branch for full KYC

Checked with others, turns out the account stays active for up to 1 year without full KYC. So all good for now.

    Debit Card Drama 🎭

Applied for a RuPay Classic Debit Card via net banking on 26th Aug. ₹177 got deducted instantly.

Got an SMS on 27th Aug saying the card was dispatched and would arrive in 7–10 days.

Then on 28th Aug, once the Classic card showed up in net banking, I upgraded to RuPay Select Debit Card (RSDC).

₹413 deducted for the upgrade. Got another SMS on 30th Aug confirming dispatch.

Didn’t apply for RSDC directly because the fee was ₹944.
Going through the upgrade route cost me ₹590 total (₹177 + ₹413), so saved a decent chunk there.

    Now here's the twist:
To upgrade, you need the expiry date of your current card. Since I hadn’t received mine yet, I asked around.

Most banks follow a simple rule: issue month + 5 years.

But IOB does it differently, they set expiry to Dec + 5 years from issue year.

So if your card is issued in Aug 2025, expiry will be Dec 2030.

    Delivery Confusion 📦

On 2nd Sept, got an SMS from India Post with tracking info.

It showed my branch as the destination, which was confusing but the card ended up arriving at my home later.

Then on 4th Sept, got another tracking SMS (assumed it was for the upgraded card).

On 6th Sept, got a “delivered” SMS for the first card, but nothing showed up, figured it went to the branch due to the upgrade.

Finally, on 8th Sept, both Classic and Select cards landed at my doorstep. Activated the RSDC via net banking. All set now!

Hope this helps someone going through the same process.

Shoutout to the folks who helped me figure things out. 🙌
