Kotak Bank Froze My Account Without Notice & Forcing Me to Close It – Need Advice!

I'm still struggling with the same issue. Kotak froze my account without any prior notice and kept changing their reasons—from “transaction mismatch” to “profile issue” to “income proof not submitted.” I explained everything clearly and even raised complaints to the RBI Ombudsman and CPGRAMS, but both got closed with generic replies favoring the bank. It’s been mentally exhausting, and my ₹3000 is still stuck. They are just forcing account closure without any proper justification. Truly disappointed with the entire process.

I am just about to close my account soon.
have you complained to rbio before 1 month because if you do so then they cant do anything and my 16k is stuck with them.

Yes, I filed the RBI Ombudsman complaint after 30 days of the issue, so it was well within the valid timeframe. Still, the RBI O didn’t consider the strong 7-point reply I submitted after they shared Kotak’s response. They just closed the case without reviewing my points properly. It's really frustrating how even after giving clear explanations, they sided with the bank.

From what I have learned it seems like too many UPI Self-transfers flags your account for Anomalous Transactions. This is not limited to only Kotak but other banks as well.

Were your self-transfers mostly UPI based and very frequent? Another uses with similar complaint was advised to use IMPS/NEFT for self-transfers if doing in large numbers within short period of time @ajijul_93rahman
This is true. Happened with my old kotak account. Used to immediately get transaction verification call for fraud monitoring after decline. Had to close the old account and open a new account with kotak.

Can you share your complaint details, Bank's response and your 7 point reply?

📌 Bank’s claims to RBI:

  1. Transactions did not match my declared profile.
  2. I received multiple credits from different individuals.
  3. I declared my purpose as "personal use".
  4. I did not submit any documents about my profile.
  5. They asked me multiple times to close the account.
  6. Account was reviewed by RCU and closure was suggested.

📌 My 7-point reply to RBI (with clarification for each point):

1️⃣ Transaction mismatch – I submitted a detailed statement. 90%+ transactions were self-transfers and with family (brother, mother, sisters, in-laws). No unknown sources.

2️⃣ Timeline manipulation – I raised the unfreeze request on 10-02-2025 (not 01-03-2025 as they falsely claimed). I completed DigiLocker KYC and even visited the branch on 27-02-2025.

3️⃣ "Personal use" misquoted – I only mentioned “personal use” for a small set of minor transactions. Kotak wrongly applied it to all transactions.

4️⃣ Credits from others – All were family or known persons. I shared names and explanation for each credit.

5️⃣ Account closure pressure – I never requested closure. I always asked for unfreeze. They kept forcing closure without giving fair chance.

6️⃣ Suspicious activity – No specific transaction was ever flagged. The term “TXN PATTERN ANOMALY” was never explained clearly.

7️⃣ Document submission – I submitted my Office ID card and Breakdown of all transactions during the first unfreeze request. Kotak never officially asked for income proof or any other document in writing.

❌ Despite giving all proofs and clear response, RBI closed my case saying no further examination required. Very disappointing.

Why live with that account, branch n bank after such a prolonged battle ?

Is it worth so much ? After all, it is nothing but a simple SB account. Nothing unique or rarity about it.

Dozens of SBs can be opened nowadays - online, offline, purely difital n what not....

Remember everything will not go as per our plan or wish. One should learn to take a no for an answer or even a set back and move on.

Life is too precious to splurge on such unproductive issues.

Move on to better things....

When they say transaction mismatch, does the transaction amounts exceed your income category? Did you receive large sums of money from different individuals?
