Here one twitter user Naveenkumar B S shared on twitter -

Bengaluru Metro now supports all banks NCMC RuPay Debit cards, so there is no need to buy a new card to travel. Today I activated my SBI NCMC debit card service creation at the metro counter and loaded 200 Rs.

I travel by metro regularly in Bangalore, and today I checked at the Banashankari customer service counter if there was any possibility to link my existing SBI Rupay NCMC debit card. The person checked, created the service and loaded the amount.

I have the Orbit wallet card but it was mandatory to have minimum KYC in the wallet app before linking the card using the kit number. If anyone has been able to link the orbit card without KYC as a purely transit card let me know.

Online Wallet requires KYC and the card is linked with the online wallet as well, so not possible, IG.

What's min kyc there? Only mobile number registration/linking as in the case of other prepaid NCMC card, I don't think so.

No it needs Aadhar KYC through OTP. Which is why I was wondering how it is listed under prepaid MTS card when it can't be activated as a pure transit card without enabling online transactions through KYC.

I think the system is ready from the NPCI side.

It's entirely up to the Orbit Wallet team when they install these machines at metro stations and bus depots and allow card purchases without KYC.

just like ONGO, Airtel Bank, and CUB Bank have done -

Haha 😂 so it's doing min KYC.

Did you purchase?
IG, they have sent you without any charge so as to get feedback, right?

IG,Orbit Wallet (Sakera) is not authorised to issue PPI that's why tied up with LivQuik Tech. (licensed) one.

RBI has waived off even min. KYC requirement for a pure transit card/NCMC upto the limit of 3k wallet balance.

Because they haven't brought the card with the limit of 3k balance at any point of time, that's why requires min KYC.

Yes the CEO sent it to me free of charge to get feedback.
RBI has waived off even min. KYC requirement for a pure transit card/NCMC upto the limit of 3k wallet balance.
As of now all NCMC cards have a maximum limit of 2K for offline balance, haven't seen any with 3K limit yet.

Chalo NCMC card gives the user the option to decide whether to do KYC and activate the online transactions or to skip it and activate only for offline transit use. Meaning the same card can be used as prepaid or pure transit (choice is available only at the time of activation and can't be changed later). But with Airtel NCMC the card available at the metro station is pure transit only, while for prepaid card the user has to create a wallet and then order online through it.

NCMC can be of any nature, be it prepaid or debit or credit. Pre-paid has 3 variants, no kyc, min kyc and full kyc.

3k is max cap limit for zero kyc NCMC card.

Not available here, withdrawn it services. Though, the app is good especially because it has tied-up with CC Avenue.

Yes Airtel has two variants.

Orbit, Airtel, or say, mostly are chargeable and restrictive in nature, issuance fees & annual fees and can not be recharged/ loaded/ top-uped through CC without any charge. Also, these card can be recharged from the certain or their platform only. SBI is available at the majority platforms among others.

Airtel only got the market share of DMRC because of restriction levied on Paytm Payments Bank (Wallet & Transit Card) and laziness of SBI even after being issuer for DMRC.

As of now, SBI has edge, IMO.

The recharge experience is very smooth. No gateway charges for adding balance. It shows the transaction history in so much detail that I haven't seen in any other NCMC card, it shows individual transaction ids for balance added to online wallet, subtracted from online wallet, added to intermediate balance, deducted from intermediate balance, added to offline balance on the card through NFC.
Screenshot_2025-03-11-00-29-49-03_7c1fbada8986eacedd5c61ea3b5bbc3a.webp
The minimum recharge amount is ₹1 unlike Airtel where it is ₹100. And it allows adding in decimal values like I added ₹1.07 to test. They will enable the balance check and update features like Chalo app for NFC capable phones and won't keep it exclusive for just their own card like Airtel has done.
In fact Orbit is in the process of enabling adding any supported bank's Rupay contactless credit or debit card so it can add offline balance using the same card's online balance. Also the Orbit card will be tokenised on NFC capable phones to enable tap and go feature for NCMC going forward.

NCMC can be of any nature, be it prepaid or debit or credit. Pre-paid has 3 variants, no kyc, min kyc and full kyc.
Yes I'm aware.

3 actually. Pure transit, prepaid and debit.

Issuance fees are there for any NCMC card. Even Airtel isn't clear about their annual fees for the prepaid card variant. As for recharge only through the app, going forward NCMC wallets will have their own UPI id which can be used to top up the balance from any UPI app and then balance update performed through any app supporting this feature. As of now SBI and Airtel are live on the Bharat Connect (earlier BBPS) platform for recharge.

Great, does it get updated in real time? Txn alert is also available, SMS or/& email?

I am not talking about gateway charge, is there any convenience or some other fees? I heard that CC is no more available to load the wallet/card. Then, how? May be because there's no option to add the balance in offline wallet directly (correct me if I am wrong), that's why may be in order to avoid exploitation, since universal/online bal can be used for different purposes...

Other's transit card & still metro closed loop metro card can be recharged through CC without any charges.

That's great then.
We don't earn intrest on offline wallet balance, also somehow if it's lost, we loose offline wallet balance also, so it's better and advised to keep min. bal.
And it allows adding in decimal values like I added ₹1.07 to test.
Wow, that's appreciable only because took the 1st initiative, IG.
They will enable the balance check and update features like Chalo app for NFC capable phones and won't keep it exclusive for just their own card like Airtel has done.
Yep, we discussed earlier as well.
In fact Orbit is in the process of enabling adding any supported bank's Rupay contactless credit or debit card
Let's see, in GFF24, it was said that the feature is coming soon on G-pay, shown demo as well. Not only that G-Pay even announced that it will be live by the end of this year but no any signs so far. Hope...
so it can add offline balance using the same card's online balance.
You meant to say, offline wallet will be able to get loaded with the added Rupay DC & CC? Only Rupay or Visa & MC also?

Heard and the conduct shows they are working in some specific niche. Since, not interacted personally or no such info is available publicly, so don't know much.

Aap se toh huwa na wo bhi aacha hai...CEO seems young and open minded, so we can hope.
Also the Orbit card will be tokenised on NFC capable phones to enable tap and go feature for NCMC going forward.
Really? But NCMC's balance (offline) gets stored within the chip of physical card, right? So, how this will gonna happen? May be I am missing something or they are working on some other technologies or tie-ups

Throw some lights...
Yes I'm aware.

3 actually. Pure transit, prepaid and debit.
Yep, ignored debit one, purposefully.
It can not APB can not match the level of Paytm. 😐

Kaash Paytm hota...
Issuance fees are there for any NCMC card.
Not for all... SBI Transit Card is being freely distributed even there is no annual fees as of now.
Even Airtel isn't clear about their annual fees for the prepaid card variant.
🤣
As for recharge only through the app, going forward NCMC wallets will have their own UPI id which can be used to top up the balance from any UPI app
Ohh, this is something new. Put some links...
and then balance update performed through any app supporting this feature.

Yes, earlier referring to the same.

This is the latest news about adding Rs.1.

Who was the guy crying about the minimum Rs.50 or Rs.100 load ? @Aniket jara naam batana tag karta hu. 🤣🤣

Great, does it get updated in real time? Txn alert is also available, SMS or/& email?
Balance addition is updated in real-time. Balance deduction gets updated only when the transit agency settles the transaction with the NCMC issuer. Usually Metros and Buses settle transactions in 2-3 days from the date of transaction. But in the meantime you can always check the real balance using the balance check option on NFC capable phones.

I am not talking about gateway charge, is there any convenience or some other fees? I heard that CC is no more available to load the wallet/card
I use UPI for balance addition and there is no convenience fee on that. It may apply on debit card and net banking similar to UTS for railway.

I heard that CC is no more available to load the wallet/card. Then, how? May be because there's no option to add the balance in offline wallet directly (correct me if I am wrong), that's why may be in order to avoid exploitation, since universal/online bal can be used for different purposes...
Actually when you click on offline balance addition and select the payment mode and complete the transaction, the balance directly shows up in Unclaimed balance. The steps of addition to online balance and deduction from online balance happen automatically in the background. This unclaimed balance can only be used to write to offline balance on the card and can't be pulled back to the online balance unless you block the card permanently by reporting loss of card. So ideally if their concern is people using cashback cards to add to the online balance and using at POS terminals in stores then they can enable it only for offline balance addition and not online. I can get a clarification from the CEO in this regard.
You meant to say, offline wallet will be able to get loaded with the added Rupay DC & CC? Only Rupay or Visa & MC also?
It's more like a balance add transaction that one can perform at a metro station or Bus conductors device. In Mumbai we have Chalo for buses, if I need to add offline balance to my NCMC card on the conductors device, it gives 2 options, either using cash or using the online balance of the same card. If I choose the online balance then it's a two step process, on first tap it will deduct from my online balance using contactless payments and second step it will write the balance to my card's NCMC wallet.

This option isn't available on any app directly for consumers for now, so I suggested it to the CEO since I have ICICI Rupay contactless debit card which recently enabled NCMC on it but the imobile app has no option to add balance to NCMC wallet, so tapping the card physically is the only way it can be done. And he said they are already working on adding this feature in the future releases.

Really? But NCMC's balance (offline) gets stored within the chip of physical card, right? So, how this will gonna happen? May be I am missing something or they are working on some other technologies or tie-ups
Once you tokenise the card then your phone replaces the card. You can discard the physical card after that since it will be of no use. Even the offline balance will be written to your phone in a secure wallet created by the app. In this case there will be no need to update balance over NFC after recharge since it will go directly into the offline wallet.
This option will be only for the Orbit card in orbit wallet not for third party bank issued cards. Those will only work for recharge using UPI or NFC like I explained in the previous answer.
Ohh, this is something new. Put some links...
Info not in public domain, got to know from Harshvardhan Zaveri (CEO) since they are actively involved in policy decisions. He said the UPI id may even come printed on the future cards. Not sure but I guess it will follow a particular framework standard using which we can determine the UPI id for the older cards as well.

Which feature? Wallet with UPI ID or NFC?
NFC balance update feature supporting all bank cards.
