My Journey With Kotak Bank

Greetings Everyone
Today I am sharing one of my bad experiences with kotak.
3 years back opened kotak 811 0 bal a/c, due to internal policies 811 cc got rejected. In Aug 2023 took kaching card after so many persual from cc dept and they gave me limit of 15,000.Upgraded to kaching xl in dec 2023 and till date with the limit of 23K.LE given merely 4K which I rejected. So after visiting home branch for some banking related queries and transactions, I got frustrated and requested for closure of digital a/c and that too got closed by branch after 2 days when I reported it to customer care.

This 3rd March 2025 I went and discussed for opening kotak privy platinum salary account and they readily agreed. During discussion employee said that they will give me Black for a year, I didn't said anything but emphasized to open salary a/c.
Since my CRN is alive though my 811 a/c closed bank staff discussed something which raised my suspicion.He took my cheque book and filled the initial deposit of 5lac and when I saw that I said I will be giving 3lac now and he started making puppy face saying,"Sir ab bhar diya hoo, sign krdijiye." They were not able to give me customized a/c no. and I followed up with them whether my a/c his platinum variant or not and branch employee kept saying,"Aree sir mai hoo sab hojaayega".

I got the normal everyday savings a/c welcome kit and just went to the branch and questioned them what it is? Again, his reply that I am looking into it. He contacted his senior for change of SBS code and gave me excuse next day,"Sir naya branch hai abhi id nahi map hui hai". He generated an SR and by himself closed it.I was patient till yesterday and then I dialled to customer care and call got escalated to senior and he took the RM on call and he started making excuses. Today(22/03/2025)I went to another branch of kotak in my city and they checked the SR. They said that we are looking into it. Looked at my salary slip and I informed them that my company is now open to all banks. They called to someone in backend team and then I got a reply that I cannot open my salary a/c with them as they have blocked COCO(dont ask about it to me, I also dont know) of my employer.

Again, a new bad experience after one in past from Kotak.

Once they reach their target they don't listen to you
This is now common in many banks but not limited to kotak

They should've checked with their team before opening ur account.

What r u gng to do now?
 
If you want to close, close it within 14days
Because after 14 days most bank if not all charges for account closure upto 1year

I will close the account once my salary gets credited,though last night I received the mail that change of scheme code i.e from everyday savings to privy platinum is done. I have mailed the pno regarding clarification on COCO and other ways to retain me if they want.
 
Coco - Corporate code...ur company seems to be not in their list... nor sure why...
I asked at another branch and the lady while being in conversation with the backend team after checking my employer company said they have blacklisted the company, I cannot open salary a/c.
 
Update on this and info incase someone might land in such situation and come across this thread. I had escalated the issue to PNO and I was getting automated reply that they are taking longer time than usual and are sorry for such but I felt they were not doing anything. Finally, on 3rd April 2025 I went to the branch and closed my account,cancelled their 3 year old card and thus closing all my relations with kotak. Once, I processed all this, I got the mail from PNO that my account is closed. It felt like that they were simply waiting instead of taking action against their employee for misselling and bluffing all the time. So, if you are interested in opening salary a/c or maintaining any relation with kotak kindly cross check the details before processing anything and get all discussions over mail. Kotak employees have a great excuse that they cannot mail to an external email to avoid any type of situation. Happy Banking and Happy learning.😊

You could've utilised this situation to penalize kotak.
Before closing, you should've raised a complaint to RBI BO for misselling.

Nevertheless, do you mind sharing which branch/area you faced this?

Regarding the penalization, I felt not to burden myself for such followups 😄. Instead a punishment, closed the a/c as I was the first customer to the branch and now let them be answerable to their senior internally for their chase of goals. In between all of these issues branch employee was also trying to sell any policy so that he will meet his quarter end goal by making puppy face and emotional blackmail by expressing his pressure but I didn't purchased.

Today I learned that Kotak gives customized a/c no. Which other banks do? I know about IndusInd, and HDFC and IOB. IndusInd gives by default for free, HDFC gives on initial deposit of 5L if you have Preferred banking already?, and IOB gives an additional alias for existing account.

Edit: Apparently RBL and Yes Bank from scouring this forum. RBL is giving on Advantage savings account (25K MAB) and Rise (50K MAB)

Ah yes Kotak has these really stupid policies. 811 account only for New to Bank. If ever 811 closed, then can't get 811 ever again. Custom account number only for New to Bank but they will tell us this after somehow our CRN is already created via some other banking relationship. That means we can either get 811 account or customized number account.😄 811 owners can't easily open another account. Even if we do get another a/c opened, then 811 can't get 811 Super. Privy League Signature CC users can't get any other credit card. Spendz prepaid users can't get 811 Super. One wrong "move" and you become ineligible for some other product. 😄
